When I open Serum 2 (synth or fx instance) and play notes with keyboard or midi device, Renoise starts lagging. Fps drops to single digits and audio playback has serious lag and some of the faster notes gets ignored.
If I close Serum 2 gui there are no problems.
If I set buffer size to 1024 the lag from Serum 2 disappears. Also I can use Serum 2 on Reaper just fine.
Using Windows 10.
These settings have no effect:
Scaling for the display 100%/125%
Disabling 2nd monitor and applying its scaling to 100%
Setting “Let windows try to fix apps so they’re not blurry” on/off
Audio ASIO/directsound
Any gaming overlays are disabled
Windows 10 and Renoise DAW have latest updates
GPU and ASIO drivers have latest updates
CPU usage stays under 6% in Renoise monitor and from task manager cpu utilisation stays on 3-4% no matter if the gui is open or not.
I even had this with serum 1 and some other vst’s too , it’s mostly due to some graphics animation in the plugin -rendering etc…
Some had this behaviour in all hosts , and some only in renoise .
Serum always came over as a plugin that imho wasn’t that really optimised and some developers think we’re all using gaming workstations with superadvanced graphics card etc…
Sounds as the same problem as with SSL and Arturia plugins. Everything works fine, untill you open (and close) the gui, than everything starts lagging, rendering super important vst’s unusable in Renoise.
In a couple of hours somebody will post here that it’s a problem that needs to be fixed by the plugin company, but it feels like the same cause. I find it strange that these plugins seem to work fine in every other DAW except Renoise. I can’t imagine that these plugin builders have if statements in their code for every daw to get the thing working in all DAWs, then again, what do I know
It’s the exact seem behaviour popping up only in Renoise, from plugins built by several prominent plugin companies, that has to mean a bit work for Renoise too.
I hope this gets fixed magically someday for you and me, I really miss my SSL plugins.
Hi guys, I’m sorry, but everything is working great for me with Arturia plugins - I’m currently having no problems with the current Renoise 3.4.4 with the Arturia V Collection or the FX Collection (I had no problems with previous versions either!!) - it must be a computer problem - I very rarely have crashes when using plug-ins - I use a Lenovo T480 with 16 GB RAM and a Lenovo P53 with 32 GB RAM, each with a Samsung SDD - AISO drivers from Apogee Groove = no problems - I love RENOISE … I must say that I seem to have optimally tuned my computers for a DAW - that wasn’t so easy with the P53 because of the Thunderbolt 3 interface … it works better without Thunderbolt - you don’t need an external graphics card - the onboard cards in my notebooks are sufficient … it’s important not to be online and possibly to turn off Windows Defender - but that’s often a problem with other DAWs too!!! Best regards
