i’ve been making music for quite a while now, and i’ve really been enjoying the process! i made four albums last year (as you can tell by how many i made, they’re not very good lol), and put them on bandcamp.
lately however i’ve been getting kind of annoyed at bandcamp’s excessive desire for making me make money (something i do not intend to do, i want it to be 100% free), including limiting the amount of free downloads per month, and not giving me access to certain features as i’ve not made any cash.
this frustrates me quite a lot as i do really want to show my friends my music! so here comes my question: are there any good (preferably free and open source) places where i can put my music for free, and have it be free to download (pretty much) infinitely? thanks!
(i do have a website where i could theoretically host it, but i’ve heard from some that there’s organisations who love scraping the web for music and then sending you letters claiming you’ve infringed on copyright, as well as me not wanting to take up too much storage on my friend’s pubnix server where my site is hosted)
((another thing that i’d like to have is some sort of control over how my page looks!))
Hey, that is so good you’re enjoying the process rather than rushing to make money. I’m very impressed to see your passion for music. Can I hear your albums?
Also I think you should put your music on YouTube and where you can share it to your friends. I think it is a very good place to upload your music without having the stress of storage, isn’t it?
well, i’ve managed to survive all these years without having a google account (a personal one, i’ve had one for school at one point), and i’d really like to keep it that way as google is just plain evil…
plus, advertisements are a thing there!
also,
can i hear your albums?
that’s literally my point lol, you cannot at the moment and i’m trying to fix that…
There are some nice tunes on your album, for example “チル・アンド・ダイ”, “Return” and “Ma Seli”. I would suggest to number those tunes in order to keep the intended order. And personally I think consistency in style is important too, so therefore I would only put songs that have the same style on the same album.
they should be in the correct order? as far as i know alonetone doesn’t shuffle them (and actually, in the ui they are numbered)
also, i’d personally argue that 1) the songs are fairly consistent? they’re all pretty chill and beat driven, and while there’s a bit of variance i think that just helps prevent it from feeling stale, and 2) i did make all of these tracks in a way where they’d fit together, but that might’ve gotten lost on you since you probably didn’t listen to it the whole way through
You didn’t change anything? I’m on another computer now (same OS, same browser), and now they’re numbered indeed. On the other computer the bonus tracks were at position 1 and 2, everything was sorted alphabetically instead of having numbers. Anyway… When it comes to style, it may be a matter of taste. Personally I wouldn’t bring breakbeats (partially almost Jungle) and “normal beats” on the same EP, album, whatever, even though the songs might have the same chilly vibe. But to each their own, right? Nice album overall, I’ve listened to it while doing some work and it wasn’t annoying, which is a good sign and means that you did something right. I like the interaction of pads, arps, piano and stuff.
