I have a bunch of collected waveforms (44.1 24bit) that I use in my music projects, but when using them In Renoise they play in a different pitch, usually much lower than when using them in other samplers, even after pitching them up I can’t seem to get them playing in the correct pitch, they often seem to be playing at a pitch that’s in between two notes. Does anyone have any idea what I’m doing wrong? I’ve tried messing with all the instrument and loop settings, but I’m not having any luck so far.
Are you sure you’re triggering the samples with the ‘Z’ key in the 4th octave? (C4 in Renoise?)
How ‘low’ do they sound? How many semitones? Did you try finetuning the samples in the Intstrument Settings tab? Is the line sync off? (also instruments tab)
What sample rate are you using in the preferences? (edit / preferences / audio) Does changing the setting fix the playback pitch?
My audio sample rate is at 44.1 and 16bit… I should be okay there, I think my problem is knowing the sample length vs. sample rate to figure out the pitch…are there any tools or scripts around that would do this? I’ve been searching but haven’t found anything yet.
edit: ahh nevermind guys, I’ve found the math formula to calculate this, thank you for the quick responses though.
Samples are played according to their bit and frequency rate. If the same sample plays differently on two hosts, check if both hosts are set up to play samples at that same rate although i expect the host to auto-adjust the sample to match the settings for the soundcard. If loading the sample in a sampler VST, make sure the sampler vst can handle rates other than 44Khz. If that is a limit and the host is set to 48 or 96Khz, you get such audible pitch and speed differences.
Hey thanks for the info vV I really appreciate it, used to know some of this stuff, but it’s been quite a while since I’ve worked with samples in this way. I’ve got it all figured out now
