Is there a way to make Renoise have Function keys while Renoise is active? i have seen some trackers do this. i’m referring to the function keys no longer doing OSX functions (brightness, volume, playback, dashboard, etc control) when Renoise is active.
Technically, I don’t believe there’s a way for Renoise to hijack this low level stuff. If the f-keys are doing something special like adjusting brightness or volume, then it’s handled by the OS directly and simply never reaches Renoise in the first place. So we either get sent a standard function key keystroke by the OS, or we don’t get anything at all.
However, a quick Google search revealed this 3rd party tool Palua, which can switch the f-key behaviour for certain apps. Not sure how suitable it is, or how it’s actually working under the hood, but it seems to do what you want.
Thanks, I will try Palua. the reason I was asking about native-to-app solution was because SchismTracker actually hijacks the F1-F12 and they will only resume OSX functioning after Schism is closed.
EDIT I’m after installing Palua, and it works! This is perfect! Thanks dblue!
Oh? Hmm, that’s interesting indeed. I wonder what kind of hacks they’re doing to achieve that. We’ll try to investigate
yeah, another thing i noticed schismtracker doing, is they actually flash Flux on/off a few times when you start the app and when you exit it. it’s pretty weird.
