Sononym - Sample Browser

Yes, but it’s scratching with the left hand behind the right ear.
Time will show.

Added new samples, refresh and Sononym found … nothing :frowning:
Linux Manjaro, Sononym 1.3, external 4TB porsche desktop NTFS formated.

Is possible to download previous version ?

I’m not familiar with linux and how it handles directory permissions, administrator rights etc. Are you sure you have set-up the library locations in Sononym correctly?

I happen to use Sononym on Manjaro Linux. On an ext4 partition (and most probably also on an NTFS partition) it works fine. The problem you have is probably on paths or permissions (some mounts are created read-only, and you need write permissions since the Sononym database files are created at the root of your library folders)

there is no problem with permission :frowning:

Wait…

Ignoring contents of directory: '/run/media/martin/1F5D558E38973325/Samples/'

If you add another folder on the disk with a few samples, and you try to add it as a library in Sononym, does it get explicitly ignored too?

Yes,
all my ntfs disks are ignored and created sononym.db is empty.
One disk is internal sata, second mounted thru usb.

On external EXT32 partition same problem.
here is created empty database
empty database

Problem partically solved.
I dunno why but if i make symlink in my home directory pointing to sample directory on external ntfs drive
like this

ln -s /run/media/martin/1F5D558E38973325/Samples/ SAMPLES

after that in Sononym i select this symlink and this works !!!

Does Sononym 1.3.1 support M1?

yes but …
roadmap

Hey, sorry for not keeping up enough with this thread!

But indeed, Sononym is maintaining an internal list of directories that are known to be inaccessible or read-only. More specifically, these folders:

  • Linux: bin, boot, dev, lost+found, run, sys, proc, sbin, var
  • macOS: bin, etc, dev, private, lost+found, sbin, usr, var
  • Windows: System Volume Information, $RECYCLE.BIN, PerfLogs, Recovery

So, “run” is indeed on the ignore list. It’s possible that we have misunderstood the purpose of the directory, but according to the linux specs it’s a transient type folder:
https://refspecs.linuxfoundation.org/FHS_3.0/fhs/ch03s15.html

seems to be solved.
I changed disk mounting rules to /mnt and it working.
thanks for info.

What’s new in Sononym 1.4?

Thanks,
updated.

Nice!

Unfortunately i am getting a Java exception after updating to v1.4 when starting Sononym (Windows 10).
Acording to the exception, ‘pictures’ can not be found.
Anyone of you experiencing this?

Thanks in advance!

Not really the same, but I bought this is May for Linux. I was only able to use it for a month before it started to crash on start, something about the mainWindow not being able to be rendered. v1.4 doesn’t fix this, so now Sononym is collecting for $99.

Acording to the exception, ‘pictures’ can not be found.

Hm, that definitely shouldn’t happen!
It would be great if you could share the application log file with me (private message, if you prefer).

Note: this link explains where to find the log file if you are unable to start the app.
