starting out a project. new to renoise

Hello, i’m starting a project, but since now i’ve only worked with reason. i’m totally new to renoise.

any specific advice besides, of course, reading the official guides and whatching the official tutorials?

my goal is to make an album using only samples i will cut myself from other songs (like, a drum line from a song, voice from another, melody from another etc) to make something different.
i.e. is it better to cut samples outside of renoise or can i do it all with it?
best way to sync all samples with different bpm?
anything else that may come in mind with this approach. thanks!

Hi – welcome to Renoise!
The newest update to Renoise has added time stretching to the sampler, which really helps when you’re mashing up samples from various sources.

Of course, you could always just slice a drum loop so that each hit is its own slice and then sequence the sounds yourself. This is the old-school Renoise way of “time stretching” samples, which a lot of the guys in here will say is better because then you don’t granulate your transients.

Slicing samples in Renoise is pretty robust and core to how the whole thing works – it’s kind of a learning curve but it’s well worth it, as Renoise lets you do some unique maneuvers when retriggering samples. Once you dive into Effect Commands, you see how much control you have over each slice of a sample.
