Static Processing Buffers

I’ve noticed many many VSTi’s require enabling “Use static processing buffers” and I’m wondering what exactly is the benefit for having it disabled by default?

“static processing buffers” introduces latency (256 samples) per effect, and also quantizes all automation that goes to the plugin by this amount. So whenever possible, it should be disabled. Actually it’s always a bug (or let’s say limitation) of the plug when it needs this option. But there are so many plugs which need it that we have up even trying to report this to the plugin authors.
