The track-minimize-thing could perhaps be separate for the matrix and pattern view,so the groups could be minimized in the matrix but visible in pattern view.
Something along these lines;

Why wouldn’t it? If you want to use the same automation/pattern effects in another pattern, then you can easily copypaste/drag downwards. It also helps because you can easily see if it has automation or not.
I think it would have been nice if you could drag and squeeze the matrix to the width you want, then you could have some very slim matix tracks as a mere visual reference and then drag it as wide as you want when you want to work in the matrix.
