Suggestions

One thing i like on renoise is, that I already love it, yet there is a space for another improvements, if good tool can only be better you can always look forward for it’s development, here are some suggestions i was thinking about recently…

Chord handling::

It’s nice you can add a chord into a track while holding shift, but it’s very awkard to do it with one hand while the other actually holds it, my suggestion is: mode, where the “editstep” is not triggered until you fill the last column in a track

C-4 E-4 G-4 [when last note is entered it skips by editstep]

Skipping Columns

I’m missing one feature from fast tracker times, it was used often because it lacked nna, you wrote notes into more channels to maintain the sustain of them, you set “rec” mode in the tracks you wanted and then when you hit the key, it skipped into another track, it is kinda obsolate now but it would be handy to have that inside of track with more columns, because not every vsti has a decay you can set up

it would work like this … you turn said mode on and you’ll write like this

C-4 — ---
— C-4 —
— --- C-4
C-4 — ---
— C-4 —
— --- C-4

etc…

Send dry/wet

I would love to have an option to control ratio between wet and dry signal of send channel
the options you now have are “mute source” and “keep source” i would love to have something between another option of “ratio” or whatever name it would have, when the slider would react in a way ::

100%dry 0% wet 50%dry 50%wet 0%dry/100%wet

as it is now you can only “add” send channel volume to the 100% volume of the track, there can be workaround if you use gain after the send channel but i think this is much better solution.

Velocity and keyboard

as it is now, you can only hammer notes at max velocity which can be quite awkward if you use some vstis with lot of sampled velocities, for example piano romplers etc, it would be nice if you could set in vst insruments options the “default velocity” with which notes would be entered via keyboard

“Repeat effect command”

I don’t know how else to call it, but the idea would be, a trigger that would act as a previous entered command in track… let’s say this repeat command would be x00, then if you had track like this

C-4 956
C-4 x00
C-4 x00
C-4 x00
C-4 980
C-4 x00
C-4 x00

it would be same as this :

C-4 956
C-4 956
C-4 956
C-4 956
C-4 980
C-4 980
C-4 980

it wouldn’t have to work just with sample offset commands but any commands used before, it would save writing and make the tracking more fluent imo.

I know these changes are kinda minor and may seem unimportant but i think it could smooth out tracking process and make it more fluent.

I think there already was a way to do this… back in the days of FT2… if i don’t remember wrong it had something to do with removing the number of the sample that was input… gotta check this somewhen and i’ll post back.

winks at tactic seductively

“repeat effect command” already works, except for 09xx. did you ever try it with 01xx, for example?

Well this is something I’ve been missing and have been about to suggest many times but haven’t thought anyone else would want it anyway. This is very handy feature and, you guessed it, IT had it built-in. It’s very easy to make a default volume and then make the part to set volume and then humanize it. Will keep your pianissimos and forte fortissimos in order in an easy way.

Another one is this fast volume adjustment that changes the volume in the marked area with predefined percentage value with keyboard shortcut. but that’s another story.

Also when playing around with a instrument or vst it should be played with default volume/velocity set.
