I recently purchased an Axiom 49 MIDI controller and I’m loving it. I can’t seem to figure out how to switch instruments from the keyboard in Renoise though. Is this possible? I’m mostly using samples.

You can’t switch instruments from your midi keyboard natively. You can use the numpad to select different instruments.
With scripting, something is possible.
Usually a program or bank change would be the feature to use for this, but instead, it has been chosen to use program an bank changes to send directly to the (vst) instrument and control the instrument that way.
