I created this in Renoise - I think its probably a standard production method, but is useful for electro/complextro styles for sure.
Group your entire track and put a gainer on the group channel. Then make a new track outside the group, and add a signal follower going into a hydra and flip the signal follower min/max. Route the signal follower to Hydra input 1, then route the hydra to your group gainer - making sure the max is set to 0db.
Now anything on the takeover track will cut the volume of the main track for a crossfade effect.
Turn on plugin delay compensation (PDC) and play with lookahead on the signal follower for a tighter response!
