The Dead Dog'S Renoise Comp Round 2

I’m rendering a track, will send it to you Kazacore in about 10 minutes.

Well time is up but I’m knackered and going to bed. Will compress and upload the pack in the morning. This means sly, slightly late ones may just slip in… ;)

Glad I did wait as forgot to remove unused samples and things yesterday.

Having issues connecting with my ftp server at my moment but trying my hardest to get vote pack uploaded…

Due to issues with my FTP uploaded to Mediafire, downloaded and checked uncompresses correctly.

Link removed (forgot to remove ID3 tags.)

I’m faster than you I saw those ID tags :P

Oops, there’s meta data revealing some of the composers. Close your eyes and listen. ;)

Link updated (and actually on my server now too.)

No ID3 tags this time ;)

funny thing is, i know by the comments here who participated in both rounds, and am pretty sure from his previous submission which one was his this time :)

i was wondering, with respect to the compulsory sample: how clear should its presence be in the song? i don’t mean to bash anyone, as the sample was clearly audible in all four submissions, but if you’d chop this sample up and use it just to build a snare or hihat for example, it would be hard to recognize for the general listener, but would still constitute use of the compulsory sample. would this feature imply a mandatory xrns submission for judgement purposes?

by the way, nice submissions from all four of you, and i really like seeing the outcome at the end and knowing who did which track on each round.

That I suppose is something for the rule setter to decide, although unless it is a very short sample (single hit, vocal shout etc) then I would say selecting any part of it to use is acceptable unless is has been specified to be recognised, to be used in its main, if not entirety. Even a short sample you could swath in chorus, reverb, echo, filters etc and turn from a percussive hit into a pad, thus making it unrecognisable, if you so desired (in fact I used to spend hours doing pretty much that on the Amiga on some sound editor many years ago, especially lots of reverse reverb and changing pitch.)

So I guess it is again down to me to check how tight the winner/rule setter wants to be on use of their compulsory sample if they set one…

hehehe, yeah i meant to say ‘kazakore should check it’, but i didn’t, and waited for you to draw exactly that conclusion :D
i just figured, seeing you always say how lazy you are, the more work you got, the less laziness you can afford, so it will in turn make you active! and that will make you happier, as laziness can make you feel down and sad so being active makes you happy, and i know that is what you really want, stop being lazy, because why else would you mention it all the time, and why else would you start a goddamn weekly competition if not to keep yourself active! we’re all doing you a favor here mate. :)

Basically yeah mate, plus wanting to give something back to the community here. Been procrastinating too long and too hard, something with actual deadlines where it needs to be done and updated will hopefully help give me the kick I need ;)

It is hard to choose, 4 really different songs makes it hard for me to pick one…will listen again tonight, maybe then i know what to vote for :)

edit: done :D

Sorry this hasn’t gone up of the website. Until OVH sort out my issue of ftp uploads I may lay off trying to publish things from there, although will try getting the packs onto my server initially for each round for a test to see if it is wanting to work.

Anyway, don’t forget voting officially finished midnight on Saturday (although more likely whenever I get home from party Sunday due to the fact you can not set time limits to Polls on here.)

OK I’m entering the next one of these! It’ll be my very first compo! excited! when is it?

glad to hear it! check out the timetable (should be up at http://renoise.deaddogdisko.co.uk/ ) to see where we are at. looking forward to the next one; as it will fall in the weekend, i will be able to participate as well!

Having issues with FTP but there is a timetable without dates on main page so you can work it out (next weekend basically.)

Seems fun with a regularly compo, but it’s a horrible title of it; “Dead dog”?. Perhaps there would be more contributors if it had a more flashy and less scary title. Unless the compo has that kind of theme, which it doesn’t as I can see…

Perhaps I’ll take a look at it next time anyway, we’ll see. :)

I like what I’m hearing so far. I can’t wait for the next one.

Well in my opinion from the provided tracks a very deserved win, but come on people, üav has now won it twice in a row unless I’m going mental in some lack of sleep way, which I don’t think I am.

Will get up a list of what was whose for you when a little less knackered.

And I have already explained Dead Dog Disko is the name of my(our) sound system and it’s being hosted on that server/webspace when I manage to get FTP working thus using the name out of laziness as couldn’t think of anything else and a name is just a name.
