The Haas Effect...

Not too long ago, Bohan and I collaborated on a plugin for Psycle, called the Haas plugin.

What it does, is make it really easy to have fine-grained control over positioning elements in the soundstage in 3D space. It’s built on a principle of psychoacoustics known as the Haas effect – any time a sound is echoed within about 30ms of the original sound, the echo is not percieved as an echo at all – instead, the sound blends with the original, and gets used by the brain for positional queues…

An echo within the 1-3ms range has a strong effect on percieved panning. 3-30ms reflections drop subtle clues about the listening environment. 30ms+ generally suggests the room size and properties (ie, wall reflections / reverb).

The trouble with the Psycle Haas plugin is that it’s not a VST. Can somebody take the source code and port it to VST, so we can enjoy it in Renoise?

Grab the source.

Thanks!

Bo yeah! I’d be only too glad to make an attempt. I’ll do a mac version.

The technology of it seems very cool. I did a little search and found another plug using Haas effect here (see link). I have only seen one guy on the forums that can make VSTs and he programs for OS X apparently.

EDIT:
Heh that guy posted above already :D
