This song is really awesome !
Hi,
Nothing more to say… No, of course! I tried to do some electro, yet it turned into electro-trance-pop. Annoying. Can tell me so easy to program synths which normally are used in electro? I have so many that I barely can handle it anymore. Maybe SH-101?
Sounds great!
Dig the vibe here, hoping for a tempo change at some stage perhaps.
Snare may be sounding a bit ‘thin’, not sure.
Vocoder, was paramount for the genere.
Everything that sounds appropriate. There are a lot of different Electro styles. You could also check this list (incl SH-101) for some inspiration. And if the result is something else than Electro, who cares? If it sounds good, it sounds good.
Really nice. Sounds a lot like Orbital. What synths did u use to get those sounds? I am not sure u can get easier to use synth than sh-101 But maybe u-he repro
First thing I’ve done in a long time - curious to see if I’m barking up the wrong tree or not before I invest more time into polish, transitions etc. I really don’t know what genre it is…:
It’s Techno, despite the uneven beat. A Techno style that I really like, whether with even or uneven beat. I’ve listened to your WIP through laptop speakers, so maybe some sounds were drowning. Or maybe not. Anyway, the zap is way too loud, that’s for sure. And the synths and pads could be louder. Composition-wise I like that buildup, now it needs to be continued. More percussions, more background, more atmosphere etc.
That’s pretty cool! Maybe some Electro - Techno if such a genre exists. Mixing wise it also sounds very good here on my monitors!
Thanks both, it was all done in headphones with only two VSTs, Snap Heap and Surge XT, everything else native. Still a lot to do, but i appreciate the feedback.
Im glad it makes you guys think of techno as thats how it started out lol.
Here is my WIP this is only my second track so please be gentle It is not finished, I am trying to make it more danceable so any comments, suggestions, feedback welcome. Its a remix of one of my fav old UK folk songs from the 60’s
If it’s supposed to be danceable, there has to be a noticeable rhythm. Cutted uneven breakbeat loops aren’t appropriate to reach that goal. Personally I don’t think Breakcore is a danceable music style at all, but maybe the Breakcore guys of this forum like @untilde or @Lneheb can tell you more.
Btw, what’s the name of that original folk song? I’ve heard it somewhere before, but I’m not from the UK.
yeah, it’s too chaotic to dance to (conventionally). You should have some drum groove. You can try to chop the breaks so they fit to the rhythm of the background samples more
Venetian Snares for example sometimes likes to make a drum loop, copy it several times and change something in each copy. That way it sounds chaotic but simultaneously with a recognizable pattern
Also you can continue with the distorted kicks during the break part
I’d say Breakcore is more “mosheable” than “danceable” hahaha.
Jokes aside, even the most “broken” tracks in Breakcore have at least one sample to hold everything together rhythmically. Maybe not in the entire track, but at least in some parts. Heck, even Autechre guys with super broken glitch+IDM patterns always use steady claps or snares on 3rd beat.
This can be done in several different ways. Examples: hi-hats on 16th notes, a strong kick on beginning of each pattern or group of patterns (Venetian Snares seems to do this kick thing a lot, usually super distorted, specially when working with complex time signatures), or even the classic dnb snare at 3rd beat (in case of 4/4). Also sometimes there’s an intersection at half time to help the listener catch some breath. I think this is the main difference between manually programmed and randomly generated stuff (whether generative or just random button mashing). Despite all the chaos, there’s still “consistency” hiding there.
Anyways, I agree with Lneheb. Keep the distorted kicks. Use them as your rhythmic guide
Cheers mate. Since uploading this that I have tried to do just that. I have repeated some sections of a chopped up drum loop and repeated it and tried to add a kick pattern… (finding this hard) yeah “danceable” might be questionable … I run a little breakcore night in London and want to add it to my set (if i can make it sound ok to be played on a larger system) and I don’t just want everyone to stand still stuck_out_tongue:
I will keep going. The original song is Hares on the Mountain
will defo try and incorporate this- the kick on the beginning of each pattern and try and make more “organised chaos” - this is my second attempt at music and its hard innit! (but fun)
some times put a snare instead of the kik in the beginning of a pattern for variety
what other songs are in the set? if they’re as chaotic you don’t really need to make the track danceable (well, people don’t stay still even on merzbow events). Use other tracks in the set for reference. You can even steal some patterns/grooves which you consider “danceable”
I have not made it yet (not till early next year) but it will defo be chaotic (I had my fav one of yours in the last set) They all sound similar to this to some degree (lots of different “styles” of breakcore) Stream Corefusion #2 04/09 @Low Profile Studios by Demetzy (Corefusion) | Listen online for free on SoundCloud
