Well, I guess you’re more the technical type of guy and I’m a simple man.
If it sounds good it sounds good, that’s the only rule I follow. Personally I don’t replicate songs, but if I would like to replicate a song, then I would need to get the original sounds first, after that I’d try to get some more informations like which compressor was used, and last but not least I would try to analyze the sound by ears first (you could adjust the details afterwards if necessary). With some informations you can train your ears, for example by using the vowel sound method to distinguish frequencies (for example 250 Hz sounds like “OO”, 4000 Hz like “EE” and so on). And when you’re somehow experienced and you know some “mixing tricks”, it’s possible to recognize those methods in the song that you’re listening to. And even for “surgical” stuff the ears are required, too, right?
Yes, but which version? Album version, 2000 remake, another one?
Yeah I’ve been becoming better and better at for example recognizing the 3rd and 5th harmonic, the spectrum is just for reassurance hehe, the vowel trick is very useful
And thank you for making me switch all my plugins from AU to VST, I’ve had problems with some plugins in the past, and I think vst and vst3 are more stable, I thought it was the other way around lol, and I didn’t know I was breaking my project compatibility between systems.
Oh sorry I deleted my AUs I’ll be starting from scratch anyway, it wasn’t too much, just a detuned (doubled octave or using the shape parameter in surge) for ld1 and the bass which was kinda honky and bad, def not finished presets
Thanks, but it’s just the beginning. Still a lot of work to do. The kick obviously needs some more saturation (to become audible on every system) and the layered kick it still too heavy (checked through laptop speakers). More synths are required, I’m thinking of higher ones, and one of them has to be airy. I’m always looking for airy synths (and I need to get and/or to create a lot more). The buildup could also change during the process.
There are 5 pads and 2 basses. Generally I’m mostly taking “right sounding” presets as base sounds, and then I change and adjust everything (waveform/s, filtering, sub, ADSR, modulation, effects and so on) to my needs. That’s how I got the pads and one bass in this one. The other bass was made from scratch in Phoscyon. I’ve also made all the background stuff and short synths from scratch. And the drums are samples, just as always.
