perfect mix
Nice. Glad they are getting some use. Will be fun to see what people do with them over time ![]()
@slujr was there a link?

There are these too
Sometime soon there will be public access to most of my Doofer library
No promises as to when
Almost finish. Or mabye…
I am never sure about mixing… does it work here?
It is released now:
At least on my PC speakers (Creative) it sounds good and balanced.
early and raw project
Continued a bit. I think now it’s almost finished. The piano at the end is maybe a bit too melodic?
The message is more clear
top mix as always
Since a few weeks I’m facing some weird issues in terms of the sound due to soundcard settings. When I play a song in Renoise there are blips and pops just like the CPU couldn’t handle it (despite a lower percentage of CPU usage in comparison to my normal average value), regardless of the settings. So I need to check what happens after rendering the song. 99% of those blips and pops are gone after rendering, but I can still hear some slight artifacts (bass). So I’m trying to get rid of them and probably will have to do some more mixing details. But I will pretty much leave it like that, it’s almost done. That’s how it currently sounds like:

Yes, it works. Do you mono mix as suggested in the past? If you put a stereo expander in your master, set it to mono, play your song while switching the device on and off, and it sounds pretty much the same (except that of course there are no sides in mono), then you did a good job mixing-wise.
No, it’s fine. I imagined something different than an “ordinary” piano when I was thinking of a higher and lighter slightly melody given additional sound, but what you did fits well, too. It turns the atmosphere of the tune into less dub but more lounge like. And I gotta say, you did a great job on the percussions. ![]()
TNT: Yes, I use the ‘Stereo Expander’ to simulate mono. I know that trick ![]()
I am glad you like the result.
It seems I get better results when using pure samples, than with VST’s…
Thanks, great to hear. I tried to add another dub chord sound, but everything I tried didn’t sound good. Then I head the idea with the piano. Piano must be a bit more forward and it lacks a bit lows.
Your track sound great too. I think you posted that before, right?
Whether using samples or VSTs, it has no effect on mixing for sure. ![]()
No, this is the first time in world history. My style is just pretty consistent. ![]()
You’re probably confusing one of these two with the one above:
I see. Yes, it’s very consistent ![]()
yes ,of cause. mixing is a different issue. ![]()
But it is my experience that VST’s creates too many low freqs that I have hard to handle.
I can better control samples.
So to avoid too much time on mixing and low-frequence-clash-hunting, I now mainly use samples that I am familiar with, to focus on composing ![]()
There’s no difference between samples and VST instruments when it comes to the frequency spectrum.
You could simply put an HP filter (300 Hz) in your instrument bus or in each track except those you want to keep bassy.
VST presets are very often overprocessed and cluttered with reverb and blingbling. Maybe that’s his problem.
Maybe, but if you put an HP filter on presets that are overprocessed and cluttered with reverb and blingbling, those effects will get “highpassed”, too. And if you additionally sidechain the bass heavy instruments, there shouldn’t be any problem regarding low ends. But apart from that one can easily turn off all the unwanted effects and shape and transform the preset the way one needs it to be at any time.
Will redo parts of my mix. Just have listened to it again and I think kick, snare and long synths are too loud. Checked through laptop, PC speakers, HiFi speakers, studio monitors and studio headphones. There are too many differences for my taste. Damn! I cannot repeat it often enough, always check your mixes through several outputs on different days with a break in between. It’s a pain in the ass, but it will make a difference.
Yup. I also think the kick and bass is too loud on my track.
Sounds great on headphones and speakers, but in the car it’s pretty punchy
