The WIP thread - work In progress

How can a kick be too low by filter?

Sounds pretty nice! :+1:
I think the composition is nice as well, and now it’s time to end your KORG tests and to give your songs real titles.

Luckily embedding SoundCloud still works as usual, would be a pita if you would have to log in first as if you would like to play songs on SoundCloud directly. Btw, it seems the new politics leads to a dramatic decrease of plays on SoundCloud. Never had that less plays on my newest uploads in the recent years. Besides of that, nice mix, good instrumentation and composition-wise it feels just right (not too much “Spielerei”, focussing on the main elements).

Thanks for you testing
So the mud was finally washed away.

TNT: I meant that, when I filtered the Kick, the volumen sounded lower because some low freq were missing to give it power.

I am happy you liked the result
(And the naming :D)

Here is the final version

Same here on soundcloud. My latest track has only 30 plays. Usually it already should hit 200 plays.

Ok, you were talking about the volume and not the frequency spectrum. :bulb:
Never filter a kick unless it’s rumbling or causing distortions.

Yeah, it seems that SoundCloud wants to turn into a storage unit instead of being a platform for spreading music and connecting people. This move isn’t comprehensible at all. SoundCloud became worse and worse over the decades. If one cannot play songs without being registered and logged in, SoundCloud doesn’t make any sense! I expect a decrease of traffic and plays of at least 85%. Another reason for getting an artist account on Bandcamp, so my timing doing this isn’t the worst. I’ll probably drop my first album release ever in the next couple of days.

I like the vibe. What are you going to do? Change composition/mix, or is it almost finished?

Eh. what… ?
Is soundcloud now resticted so ‘outsider’ listeners can only play the song directly linked, and not click on the profile and see my other tracks without being registered user?
Or have I misunderstood it?

The composition is pretty much complete (I might double a measure here-or-there to lengthen the track some more by maybe half a minute), but in the next stage I’ll be experimenting with layering more sounds and accents in the background, for a “wall of sound” production style. If that works, great. If it sounds too “shoehorned”, then I’ll probably just leave it as-is.

No. you’re basically right. Playing any songs on SoundCloud is impossible now unless you’re logged in. Nevertheless direct links in the Renoise forum still work as usual.

Imho it’s already long enough. Instead I would try to brighten the elements that are muffled.

The song sounds like it’s in a hurry to finish… I should probably give it some breathing room between primary sections.

I’m also on the fence about the snare sample I used. It’s meant to sound fake and plastic for this tune, but there’s probably some other fake-and-plastic snare sample I should be using. Will probably load the sample into a spectral synth and tinker with it.

sounds good imo. I would keep it as it is.,

100% Renoise all samples or VST instruments rendered to sample:

Sounds suprisingly good and does not get boring although it is so simple.

Dug out an old unfinished .it track from the early/mid 2000s and almost-completing it in Renoise. I couldn’t come up with a compelling melody so I just monkeyed around with syncopation and layering and let that take me wherever it wanted to go.

Nice atmosphere. With the reverbed overlapping sound it has that foggy “Silent Hill vibe” and sounds like this with a sort of “Autechre beat”. I could also imagine this with a much cleaner sound and an Electro beat instead.

Seemingly someone got fired, SoundCloud changed it back. Since yesterday it’s possible again to play songs without being logged in. So after 3-4 weeks everything’s normal again, plays are slowly increasing again.

VHS – another tune I started last year while clawing my way out of a years-long artist’s block. Playing around with time signature changes and freeform meandering. Did some more touchups on it this past week but it still feels very “demo”.
