How does this sound?

Very nice. The mix is pretty good. Maybe you could slightly increase the kick’s volume by 10%, but it’s already good. Not sure how many times I’ve heard several mixes of this composition, but the composition itself is good, head nodding activated. I also like that soft retro style, typical Hanz Meyzer Notruf style. When and where will it be released? Needs to be compiled with your other Synth stuff. Wird eh mal Zeit, dass du nach den jahrelangen Mixexperimenten mal ein paar MP3s für’s Auto rüberwachsen lässt, Alter!

So: Some classical moviescore-like thingy made in renoise.

How is this sounding? Made in Buttwig.

Good so far, except I find it a bit too washed out and muffled. But that’s maybe just my taste.

Not finally mixed and I wonder if this isn’t too cheesy:

It sounds nice, but a bit muffled around 300 - 500 Hz. The strings are great. Is the Piano low passed?

Playin’ around

I found some time to start another Amiga remix.

Just continue making it. Great
Is it a bit near to distort a bit, or is it my headphones? Just a detail. The overall works good.

Yes you’re right, the bass was crackling sometimes just a little due to a kind of “phaser effect” caused by the first layer’s combination of unison and detune. I reduced both, changed the filter cutoff automation and also dropped some effects, now it seems to be ok. What also bothered me is the flatness of the synths and the snare, so I added layers to the synths. And I’ve found a mistake in the effect chain of snare and clap, the last send device was set to “mute source” but it should have been set to “keep source”. This mistake could also be found in my template, so I’ve corrected it. Anyway, now the WIP sounds like this:

Nice capture of late 70s synthesizer music vibes. The second half sounds kinda like Jean-Michel Jarre.

Thank you.
I am quie satisfied with the internal mix.
I have not done any mixing. And it doensnt need.
But there is one thing that bothers me.
By default the volumen is very low. It always is..
How to increase the main volumen correctly?
I have tried a Gainer with 4.0 DB that gives the correct volumen compared to other peoples work, but it clips and distorts a bit…
What do you do to increase volumen to ‘normal’ level as other songs?

If it’s just about avoiding clipping, simply drag and drop the Renoise Maximizer (default settings, boost for loudness) or any maximizer/limiter in your master track. If you’re also looking for “correct values” of True Peak, put a TP limiter (press ISP, output -1dB) right behind the maximizer. Put a loudness meter at the end of the chain in case you would like to adjust your LUFS value to a certain value. And if you would like to “fiddle around”, you could also increase track headroom (personally I still use the default settings).

Sounds pretty good overall, but somehow the bass sound design seems not to be very optimal for the root key position. Either you could remove the sub layer and make it a +1 octave layer, or you transpose the lower notes. The -1 octave layer currently clashes a lot with the kick, and also is too low to be audible. Why do you think does the bass need to sound that heavy? I wouldn’t agree with this decision… Heavy + fast bpm + short notes does not seem to be a good combination.

Thanks for the tip.
I did try Gainer, Limiter, Maximizer and even compressors before, but got lost….
I have now tried Maximizer with 4 DB boost. That gives similar level of my “We are not robots” that nobody has complained yet about about master level
And it seems not to distort.

Here is my last change with this Maximizer (and some other changes in the song. Hope to release it soon)

Yes that’s right, especially the lower notes don’t sound good. I wanted to do something on the bass later on, but I could also change it now. So for the moment (need to check later through speakers) I dropped the sub and changed the octave of the second layer from -2 to -1, so now octaves are the same on both layers. I also just have tried to begin with the buildup:

I’m not satisfied with the slight crackle at the beginning. Will be changed later on…

Use a compressor (to tame peaks) in every instrument track, and a maximizer/limiter and a TP limiter (to control loudness and avoid clipping) in your master track.

Ah, this sounds already better. Rhythmically I would completely agree, but I find the bassline very nice in the original, and currently all sounds in your remix currently are quite in-the-face, using very short release times. What if you would increase the bass release time, even allow slight overlapping of max. 2 notes? Or not closing the filter so quickly/so much? That would create more contrast overall, giving a more constant bass tone. Well, it’s very easy to criticize other’s productions, maybe just go on

Ok tanks again for your tip.

Is the volume of my latest uploaded version on same level of everyone else’s songs? I Think it is, but mabye you Can better compare it. A second opinion. :slightly_smiling_face:

If master volumen is ok, thats enough.
