It cannot be automated.
Edit: I mean the groove slider values cannot be automated. The whole groove itself can be toggled on/off with the ZG01/ZG00 commands.
Just out of curiosity, what’s a typical scenario where you’d need to do this? Is it something you regularly need in your songs?
In the upcoming Renoise 3.1 update, phrases will have their own independent groove/shuffle amount (as Redux already has), so you could have some phrases with less or more shuffle, and then trigger them at different times in your song, for example. Perhaps this will cover what you need to do, but it’s difficult to say for sure without more information about how you intend to use it.
I use renoise for a whole range of things. Lately I’ve produced a lot of music and soundscapes for TV. Nothing epic, just ordinary TV. Doing that I go in and out of different music styles all the time. I’d rather use the global groove than code all the groove settings so it would be extreemly usefull for me.
Today I’m working on a song which has an intro. The song has a shuffle groove but the intro is straight. Hm. If I could just turn it on and off that would make a big difference. But since I cant I have to open another renoise and make the intro separately. This becomes a problem when I run renoise as a slave in Reaper. It is not overly happy with running more than one renoise slave.
In some songs I use a lot of samples. Library stuff or old soul/funk stuff. I chop the samples and reorganize them. On most of these songs Id like to run separate groove settings for samples and drums.
I have more examples, but I think you get the idea
The groove/shuffle edit for phrases sounds kool tho!!
Running renoise in rewire slave disables groove. Groove can be turned on and off via pattern commands
Not in Reaper??
Global Groove on the mastertrack can be turned on and off by which pattern commands?

EDIT: four capital letters, printed in gold, I hoped someone would get that, but never-mind ♩
Yeah, good guy gova.
Sorry, Jester. I completely failed to mention ZG01/ZG00 earlier, because I simply saw “automate the groove” and immediately assumed that you wanted to smoothly change the groove slider values over time in your song.
Derp.

If this is possible, is it possible to have independent shuffle for each track, too? Like the shuffle dialogue could move to each track instead? THIS would be dope!
Or by introducing a second, hidden delay value column, that will be added to the delay1 value…
