At the moment we can create phrases out of a selection if the selection only contains a single instrument. Ideally, it would be >cool if we could do >single instrument phrase creation, but that seems to be a hard puzzle to figure out for the devs & toolmakers …cool, so let’s skip that headache for a second, the limit can be circumvented by the ‘render & slice’ tool in a way ( https://forum.renoise.com/t/new-tool-3-0-render-and-slice/43102 ).
What I’m proposing here is a tool which you can use on a certain track in a song (wherever the cursor resides), using a single instrument (maybe set which instrument to take into account in some kind of gui, ignore possible otherinstruments) and have it create phrases on a per pattern basis (be able to set the range of beginning and ending pattern) and have all phrases collected in a new instrument B)****.
Preferably the tool compares the results and skips creating more then 1 phrases out of identical matches, maybe it can use code from the ‘alias identical tracks’ tool for this recognizing business ? ( https://forum.renoise.com/t/tool-3-1-alias-identical-slots/34710 )
Why this tool?
For me this would be a great tool for creating new content out of already finished song files. Load up an oldie, find the amen rinse-out drum channel ;), run this tool and have all the patterns worth of programming collected inside an instruments phrase slots.
Bonus win;
To be able to ‘create phrase from selection’ like we can do now, but have the resulting phrase added to current instrument.
If all of the above is too ambitious to automate, this bonus suggestion would allow you to manually go to each pattern and run a keyboard shortcut for adding new phrases under each other.
The phrases concept is IMO the bestone in all of Renoise’s history. Let’s hope that the devsalso appreciateitsfull potential and choose toexpandthe phrases related set of features.
Justhaving a “Render selection on multiple tracks to phrase” feature would be quite revolutionary. Maybe some sort of combinator device for phrases would be a proper start.

With combinator you mean some kind of meta instrument, that triggers multiple phrases in sync at the same time? While cool, it sounds like another layer of complexity, another format…why not have ‘multiple track selection rendered to phrase’ collected in one instrument (if possible)? So the sounds used across tracks are combined in the sample list of an instrument, note-event placement copied in the phrase editor similar as the original layout in the pattern editor. Open up so much win for remixing old/new songs …
But back to the op’s topic ; ‘convert multiple patterns of selected track to multiple phrases in 1 instrument’ , impossible mission?
Happy if this could work for tracks using one instrument, ff the particular track uses different instruments, then be able to set which one to take into account, or use the first encountered as main instrument, skip the rest?
