Tool idea: 'Re-Share' a tool for sharing and remixing tracks..

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and seeing as I’m in a scripting mood I thought I’d put it out there.

What I’m proposing is a tool that attempts to bring together features of the Renoise song forum; Collaboration forum and the Renoise Soundcloud group. If anyone has an iPad and has used the Korg iPolysix then something similar to the Polyshare feature is what I am on about.

Basic features:

  • Being able to render a track to Soundcloud from within Renoise with the option of being able to attach the XRNS to it so that other users can download it and remix it.

  • Other users of the tool being able to see a stream of tracks uploaded through the tool and being able to listen to them from within the tool as well as comment on and like tracks, and follow users.

  • A chart with positions calculated from a combination of comments, likes, plays or some other mysterious calculation.

  • A featured tracks section showing curated tracks.

  • A remix tree where you can hear remixes of track downloaded from the tool (it could use song comments to keep track of a remixes).

  • A filter for Native Renoise tracks vs those that use external plugins.

I think that would be enough to start with. There is an upload to Soundcloud tool already so maybe this could build on that?

So what do folks think of this? Is this something that is appealing and would any tool developers be willing to collaborate/help with this? Are there any feature suggestion?

Is this even possible with the current API???

My programming skills are limited and I imagine this will take some knowledge of using the SC api and may also need server side scripting to handle the xrns files, all of which I have no experience in. I can provide hosting though but song files sizes would need to be limited.

Anyway it’s all speculation at the moment and I just wanted to get some feedback on whether something like this would be desirable and supported. I don’t think I have the skills to do this on my own but would be interested in working with others to make it happen.

I guess this might be possible, given that there’s an IRC client tool… However, if this is possible, it’ll still be quite difficult to make.

sounds ambitious, maybe too ambitious?
