Hi, I have a feeling this have been suggested before, or maybe it was a tool of some sort back in the day… could not find it now. Anyway - I’d really love to have a (native, preferrably) device like this:
Yay?
EDIT: And I guess there would be no need for an enable/disable switch like in the mockup of course
Well, yes but the Song Comments can turn messy pretty quickly if you have a lot of notes and it’s not so instantly visible and reachable as it would be with a track comment device. With a dedicated track comment device you could move it next to a very compex part of the chain to explain easily what’s really going on etc.
Not something that everybody would use so much, but I think it could be very useful for some, I know I would use it a lot
Someone wrote a tool for track comments that used the song comments area as a demarcated text area.
I glommed that and made my own tool for track/pattern comments
It exploits the fact that Renoise will ignore fx column entries it doesn’t recognize. This allowed me to have a comment for each pattern in a track (if I wanted), which is handy when I want to add note on something there.
I haven’t really done much with this since writing it but some may find it useful or interesting.

Hey, wow yes those were the tools I had way back in my memory, thanks!
I tried them both now and they do almost what I’m after. The only big downside for my needs with these is that they are too «hidden» and not instantly visible / accessable, but I guess it’s not possible with the current api to make them appear in the track dsp chain like in my mockup (?). I’m no LUA-head so I have no clue
@slujr
Thanks for the formula device tip! yes that’s the closest I’ll get at the moment I guess I’ll try to use those for my purposes, I just have to learn to ignore the sliders etc on the left side
