Is there a way to use samples in Renoise as a sound bank that can be triggered by external midi instruments?
Say I set up drum samples on several tracks, can I assign them to an external drum-pad kit like an octopad and when they’re hit it just plays those drum sounds? Or Set up a similar thing using an midi keyboard to play sampled guitar sounds?
And if not, could you suggest a way that this can be done?
Basically, I created some songs in Renoise using samples and audio that we recorded and we want to be able to access the samples we used with triggered instruments like keyboards and midi drumpads while playing the parts that we recorded with live instruments in real time, and not as loops.
Hope that makes sense? and any help would be appreciated.
You can tie a MIDI Controller to a Instrument playing through a Track. You can not tie different notes (samples/drums/etc) from within an Instrument to different Tracks.
So if you want to use the same keyboard for triggering samples in different tracks you need to either set it up with multiple zone transmitting on a different Channel, or to go through a software MIDI translator, which can do this for you based on note.
So for drums it can be hard to get it ideal. For general playing, jamming a single instrument, or triggering random samples at the right point it should well suffice.
