Triggering samples in the instrument panel via numpad - possible?

I feel like I’m probably missing something obvious here but it occured to me that this would be really useful and I can’t figure out a way to do it. Basically just triggering/gating the sample with a middle C for an instrument when switching to it with the number pad so you can play it like a grid-based sampler, similar to an SP-404 or whatever.

Is that possible at all?

Pair it with something like Rolling Sampler and it could be really cool as a more spontaneous/playable means of resampling.

Cheers

In the instrument panel, go to Keyzone and select Drum Kit. This will map the samples in an instrument to a single note.

The manual perhaps? Sampler Keyzones - Renoise User Manual

That’s not quite what I’m asking, I know you can map everything within an instrument to a middle C and that you can map multiple samples across the keyboard within a single instrument.

What I’d like to be able to do is essentially preview an instrument whenever it’s selected by the number pad, to be able to ‘play’ the number pad as though it were a hardware sampler with different samples on each pad. I half expected there to be a toggle for this I’d somehow missed, similar to the one for previewing samples in the sample browser.

I only mentioned middle C as that’d obviously be the most logical note to trigger each different instrument with by default.

Yes, multiple samples mapped across the keyboard is the closest thing, but pretty different in practice since it requires a fair bit more setup, intentionality and general mousing around. I think a ‘numpad drumpad’ would be really immediate and useful for happy accidents, especially when recording samples from external hardware to new instruments or rendering to new instruments. Obviously handy for quickly confirming what you’ve selected when editing patterns too.

Ah. Thank you, this is much more clear. There isn’t a way to do that natively.
