Well. Just adding my bit of input here.
I got a Macbook Pro, a random zbook with my own custom arch install and a desktop gaming pc with windows. So i know all worlds.

This thread is here because i want to get renoise working well on my mac (which is the first software thats not flawless so far) , not windows, not linux, because of specific software / hardware / driver combinations and the low latency macos audio engine supports.

dualbooting windows or using a windows pc with hackintosh is janky as hell and i want to stick to what i have.

Why i asked about M series chips is because i travel a lot and would love a stable energy efficient machine that runs my daw of choice well so if this could fix it id be more than happy to take some cash and upgrade for those means. so thanks a lot for your input @ffx i will check the new ones out.

In the meantime, if anyone happens to know a fix / solution id be super thankful for that!

Try older version?
Open a Renoise support ticket?

Hth.

UPDATE: Renoise support fixed my issue. They recommended switching color profile like some have said to change color profile in combination with turning off the metal setting. So far it has worked perfectly! Thank you to support and this forum. Cheers

Same here. I have an older model but top of the line for that generation intel macbook pro. My macbook pro runs flawless any other DAW even under crazy load. Yet renoise starts becoming useless without much of any load. Not latency related. I’ve tried switching all the settings with the metal and the retina settings in renoise I can’t improve it in the slightest. Obviously I’m also running into missing plug ins at a 75 percent missing rate. Most concerned with getting renoise itself working perfectly as I really love the software so far. Tried using different older versions as well as the 3.4.3 latest version says its stable for intel and m chips but clearly not the case for me. I’m desperate at this point for any ideas as well. If anyone here has our model intel chips and has tweaked the settings a certain way I would appreciate it greatly. Thank youuuuu!

specs:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) Big Sur 11.7.10
2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Sadly the color profile switching didnt work on my end since a few versions ago. I got it to somewhat run by disabling “Enable Retina HiDPI display support” and setting the scaling to 125%, disabling “Use Metal based GFX rendering” and turning off the frame rate limit. I found that it runs best in the “Display P3” color profile in your display system settings in this configuration when on the latest macos update.

This will cause it to be a bit blurry and less crisp visually but at least it runs smoothly and doesent crash whenever i click something.

as in plugins failing to load make sure “enable vst2 plugins” is checked in plug/misc settings and your vst path is correct. if you installed vsts on custom locations you will have to add them via the “additional vst2 paths”. Also if you use audio unit or vst3 plugins make sure that is also checked

I also ran into some issues when trying to load stuff from native instruments. usually updating the library to the latest update will fix those

hope this helped
