uto-Advance Slice Trigger on the same MIDI note (like Slicex "Advance" mode)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a feature that would be extremely useful for live performance and lipsync / puppet animation work.

What I need:

  • Load one long vocal/WAV file with multiple slice markers (cue points) placed at specific phonemes or syllables.

  • Assign one single MIDI note (e.g. C3) to trigger the sample.

  • Every time I press the same MIDI note again (retrigger), Renoise automatically jumps to the next slice marker and starts playback from there (sequential advance).

  • Bonus: Being able to map the Modulation Wheel (CC1) to control pitch, formant or expression in real time while the slice is playing.

This is very similar to FL Studio’s Slicex in “Advance” mode or a simple “cue point stepper”.

Currently in Renoise, slices are mapped chromatically across the keyboard, and retriggering the same note usually restarts the same slice or requires manual Sxx commands in the pattern editor. There is no native way to have automatic sequential advancement on a single key, which makes live triggering of sliced vocals quite tedious.

Use case:

  • Live lipsync for 2D cut-out animation / paper puppets

  • Real-time vocal chopping / phrase triggering

  • Performative sample playback without needing to change notes on the keyboard

Would this be something the developers could consider adding to the sampler? Or maybe as an option in the Slice Trigger behavior (“Play from next slice on retrigger”)?

A dedicated Tool would also be welcome if a core feature is too complex.

Thanks in advance for considering this request! Happy to provide more details or mockups if needed.
