Vertical Automation Envelopes With Show And Hide

I have come to think that even the pattern editor could be horizontal. The data of a line you would see in a vertical bar. It is simply to take all the characters and stack them vertically (without turning). After doing that, it would be possible to make the matrix editor also horizontal.

With this you would see less clues, but more length of them, and everything would go in the same direction. Jumping visually from the pattern editor / matrix to the automation editor would be easier. We could spend all day discussing these things.

Personally, I would prefer that the little time the Renoise developers spend again, is to improve what already exists. And you have just mentioned the automation editor, which is just one of the publishers with the greatest potential and who would need to improve a lot!

On the other hand, in vertical there would be no way to adjust the tracks with the zoom of the automation editor. It would be two independent panels. Beyond guidance, there would be no more advantages. Unless the pattern editor (the tracks) also had a vertical zoom, something exaggerated.

Vertical Zoom? Not sure what you are talking about. I always work with the tracks collapsed (The button in lower left hand corner of pattern editor)

I’m all for improving what’s already there. Even small improvements over time will have a massive effect on workflow etc.

When it come to patterns and automation its a bit odd. You have a vertical pattern with horizontal automation and only one automation can be seen at a time. I would very much like to see more it from more of a birds eye view. Toggling something from that pesky track device you can’t collapse would be a nice way to expand tracks view of automation.

Speaking of things you can’t collapse I wish they’d merge that VST browser with the one on the right,

The pattern data would be less visually aesthetic if it ran horizontally.

Vertical Zoom? Not sure what you are talking about …

The current horizontal automation editor has a huge horizontal zoom (in addition to a smaller vertical zoom). If you drop the automation editor 90 degrees while retaining its features, you would have a huge vertical zoom, which stretches the track and makes it longer. This would be great if there was an option to always keep the center in the selected line, so that the automation editor visually coordinates with the tracks.

However, I think it is better to conserve the current design, improve the pattern editor with workflow features, and drastically improve the automation editor, facilitating insertion and especially the editing of lines and curves (three-point curves only) ), in addition to adding the possibility of multiple synchronized automation panels, for several selected parameters. This has already been discussed in a very interesting thread. The possibility of seeing several automation panels at the same time, and even being able to unseat the automation editor in a new floating windowresizable was discussed.

Below the instrument box you can add features of the instrument, including some things to control the VSTi.It is not everything, but something is something.

This is debatable. Possibly you would see it strange, because you are used to seeing any vertical tracker. But well designed, it could work perfectly horizontally. It would even have its advantages. In fact, there could be a view mode that only shows a single panel to see the panning volume parameters, etc. of the selected note / effect column. This would save a lot of space. And it would be very useful. It’s a matter of finding a good horizontal design. Everything would be perfectly legible. Also, I would love to see a horizontal matrix editor, which could take the whole window, and could be shown in a floating window. Dreaming is free!
