Recently, we had a one hour ‘competition’ using Renoise 2.5(beta). The rules were simple, track a song using the included renoise instruments and native DSP only.
I decided to record me tracking this entry, with me commentating so you know what I’m thinking.
Few things to mention - this is not a tutorial. I talk a little about creative workflow, but it’s hard to speak at any length when you’re in a hurry! Zero planning went into this. I had no idea what I was going to do until I did it
I’ve sat down in front of the screen with some food and a glass of coke like I was gonna watch a movie, and pressed “play”.

Thanks for the feedback guys - it was an interesting experiment and it sounds like I’ve had enough positive feedback to try it again sometime!
Overall I found it quite difficult to talk and focus on the music composition and talking sense at the same time. I generally don’t think and express many words while tracking … that part of the brain is generally asleep. This was a bigger creative challenge than anticipated.
Asking the question “How and why do I do this?” while you track is sometimes difficult because I often don’t know why I do some things …
