Hi folks!
I’ve been trying to route my Virus synthesizer via midi so that the pattern editor in Renoise triggers it and then sends the output back into the Renoise-mixer by using the “line in”-device. The problem is that I get double sound streams into the system, one from the “line in”-device and one that’s activated by default and which I can’t seem to switch of anywhere, or I might be missing some button or something, I’m a bit groggy, I have been drinking beer… anyways, any thoughts? .)

Which Virus do you have?
- If it’s a TI model you may have to set the output to the hardware outputs instead of the USB stream.
- If it’s a other model, you maybe hooked it up in a wrong way.
- You may have a ‘midi loop’ in this case kill all unnecessary midi devices that may repeat the midi output.
- maybe it sounds just right when you wake up in the morning
It’s not a TI but a C-model so it’s shouldn’t have all these neat integrated things, but in some ways I’ve found that it’s a bit of a hybrid. .) I’ll check for settings on the synthesizer and sound-card then and return when I find out something. Thx.
No the C-model is a stand-alone synthesizer, so there is no integration.
Though there are VST-editor-tools that kind of acts like the TI bit but it’s totaly seperate and don’t carry any audio through it (pure MIDI).
The only immediate thing I can think of is if you have a keyboard version of the virus (either the Keyboard or Indigo model), then you have a setting called Local On/Off.
So if you play a note on the keyboard it will trigger the synth engine as you press the key.
At the same time that key press will be sent as a MIDI message to Renoise, then loop back to the engine to trigger the sound again as Renoise sends the MIDI message to the Virus.
But if you have the desktop model then this is not the case since there is no Local On/Off to consider.
If you do have a keyboard model and set Local to Off, then if you want to play it without any computer turned on you need to set it to On again.
Otherwise there will be no sound triggered as you play on the keyboard.
i think about buying a virus c desktop and think about buying renoise as well. there must be a solution for this.
kcv, it should work without issues.
Since the OP haven’t responded back there is no knowing what is going on.
I’ve got a Virus B desktop (basicly the same as a C in terms of usage) and a Virus TI Snow, they both work with Renoise.
