VST Instruments in Renoise Linux

Hello,

i’ve bought the Renoise licence and use it in linux. How i can activate several VST instruments? In my preferences menu there are no possibility to enter any path or so on. The system by itself search for VST instruments and doesn’t found, but i don’t know where it’s searching…

Attached my preferences menu

The path is indicated by the VST_PATH variable. There is some additional info here:

Hey, one question regarding Linux: it’s possible to use all windows vsts in renoise Linux?

Windows VSTs won’t run by default on a linux system. There are some native Linux VST modules in existance, though, “opensource” or when a developer decides to sell extra linux versions (aspect loomer, u-he, discodsp …).

To try to run windows vst’s under linux you’ll need a special wrapper translating and emulating certain windows stuff the VSTs were programmed with. I haven’t tried yet, there exist some projects to do that, i.e. dssi-vst, or more recently “abique” which is supposed to wrap winvst->linuxvst. As I said I haven’t tried, and from (older) reports of such software it’s very much possible that you won’t be able to run any vst 1:1 - there’ll be plugins that won’t work. Try & Error, and looking at compatibility lists of the respective projects beforehand.

Oh ok, thx oops, so in Common the dev needs to compile a special vst Linux build.

I had success with dssi-vst. I believe it even allows for syncing plugins to the host tempo, unlike some methods. I’ll see if I can find or create some documentation.

There is also airwave now - https://github.com/phantom-code/airwave

abique’s project is abandoned and himself recommends using airwave now.

Sorry, but i don’t find the /home/.vst folder and also not the file /home/.bash_profile - also not if i see the hidden files… I have a ubuntu Linux - maybe there is another way ???

You have to create the .vst folder. Also, by default, .vst is one of the locations where Renoise looks for plugins, so you don’t have to modify the bash profile if that’s where you’re going to place your plugins.

Ok, i will try. And wehre is the default LADSPA folder ?

home/.ladspa. As before, you have to create the folder yourself. Also, I forgot to mention that you have to have root privileges in order to copy the plugins into the .vst and .ladspa folders. One way to do this is to open a terminal and type gksu nautilus.

Be aware that some LADSPA plugins don’t seem to work with Renoise. I’ve tried using Mverb and Autotalent, and neither one worked. I’m not sure why. The Renoise manual offers some possible explanations.

Ok - thank you very much :walkman:
