VU meter in Renoise, reliable?

Hello,

Just a simple question: Are the Renoise VU Meters reliable?

Because if I use another vst like FreeG meter, the value are totally different…

I took a screenshot to illustrate:

Many thanks in advance!

Edit: The values of the peaks in the Renoise Master track are exactly the same as those displayed by FreeG

Not really. The meter display has no relationship with the numbers on the left. No idea why. I just ignore them. You can somehow “get a feel” for the peak levels by using the top meter but that’s about it I’m afraid.

That’s also my feeling. So I will disable the level meter if it’s not useful

The meter’s index displays the correct value when set to linear and -18db to 0db (notice the 0), however, the range of -3 to +3 is in fact -3 to 0.

At other settings the range of correct values is smaller

Yes. The meters show -24 or -48 or -96dB to !0dB!, but the fader uses a -24 or -48 or -96dB to !3dB! range.

The meters are too small to be useful for reading out exact dB values, but we’ll nevertheless change them to use the fader’s range (3dB) to avoid extra confusion.
