Here’s my track. Pretty basic just 4 tracks. Had fun on this!

dope! dig the minor tonality, and the drum timbres you were able to coax out of the WN
nice work!!
Very cool!
Interesting works here!
Is there any tutorials or ressources to learn some basics to make native synthesis in Renoise?
this vid shows how to use the ring mod as a synth:
Not sure about other tuts, but there are tons of ways to do synthesis in renoise. It’s kinda subtractive synthesis by default, but you can do some rudimentary additive by stacking samples with different mod sets. You can do some karplus strong type synthesis by using the key tracker to control various dsp params such as delay times in delay dsp or chorus/flanger. I’ve made synths using the flanger, phaser (by key tracking ceiling/floor), delay, multitap delay, etc.
You can also set up fx channels within an instrument to do vector synthesis between 4 different wave sets, modal synthesis by keytracking a series of resonant filter banks using an impulse, etc.
there’s a lot of experimental sonic territory to explore around the edges of renoise’s functionality
if I ever get on it, it would be fun to make some tutorial vids on these different methods. it takes a little getting used to, but the architecture within renoise is pretty flexible and can make some pretty unique and decent quality sounds, imo
Hi Everybody,
Had alot of fun and learned quite a bit going through this exercise.
Appreciate @slujr for posting up this challenge.
Had a bit of trouble here; started out on the wrong foot so to speak
That said, below is my submission, built using “noise_white_mono”,
processed only by native fx as the rules specified; it’s around 350kb:
Jek_WN_Compo.xrns (357.3 KB)
Have a good day everyone; thanks for Renoise : )
wow, @Jek this is really fukkin cool… I think you win the prize for strictest interpretation of the challenge so far, seeing as how you’re using only a single instrument and all your processing is “live.” I’m resampling quite a bit in my pieces with this challenge…
definitely impressed! you’re getting some really nice timbres/tones going on and I like the vibe of the track too. great work!
Glad if you had fun/learned a thing or two!
I’m still working on my swamp darkpsy piece for this challenge, but did a little one-off study/sketch using white noise for all of the sounds. not really a finished piece, but thought to share it:
These high hats sound amazing! Really cool theme going on here.
The springy sounds and the suspense from the melody really paint a picture.
I get a feeling of anticipation and its building up to a point where it can morph
into something big; sorta boss monster stylee.
Btw… thanks for listening to my track, really appreciate the feedback and super-
helpful tips on synthesis that ive seen in a few threads recently.
Thanks for the feedback! had some fun with this.

That’s^^^ a good idea… might have to do this.
Glad if you’re getting something out of the synth tips and such. I’ll probably drop another couple few challenges as time goes on. Thanks for participating in this one! After working with it for a little while now, I feel like white noise is actually a pretty great starting point for synthesis. A lot of interesting textures and tones can come of it and I imagine I’ll be using it a lot more in projects going forward
I like challenges like this, so i thought i’d give it a go.
Made in Renoise using only native effects and samples of white noise. Even the impulse response, used by the convolver, is white noise:
The SC version is mastered by the SC internal mastering thingy.
noise_white_mono.xrns (1.9 MB)
Amazing! Fantastic contribution… Sounds great too!
Really cool what you did there with that single impulse,
it is wonderful how a tracker could become so powerful
in the right hands.
Thank you Jek!
It is also terrible how a tracker could become so powerful
in the wrong hands.
Nicely done! Dig all the melodic tones you coaxed out of the WN, and the ambiance at the end sounds really great!
Took @Jek’s suggestion and incorporated a boss battle ending into this reworked version of my 2nd attempt at the white noise challenge
lmk what you think!
quite a bit of resampling in this one, but all sounds began their life as white noise, synthesized/processed exclusively with renoise native dsp
First fifteen seconds are are just so metallicy-brilliant;
creates a strong sense of timbre, that the smooth
pentatonic sounding strings just sit so well with
later on in the progression.
Last moments of the song are moving, the heart-beat
creates emotion, but even better yet… acts as a really
helpful queue for any dj spinning this.
Never got bored with any of the bits between the start and
finish, can even imagine lyrics fitting in here; i gotta say…
it sure is amazing what you have done with whitenoise.
hey, thanks a lot. appreciate the listen and the feedback. that first sound is wn used as an impulse keytracked to a chorus’ delay time, then keytracked thru a multitap delay (L&R delay times slightly offset from each other). All of that resampled and chopped into slices to form that pitched, rhythmic theme that runs more or less throughout.
interesting idea to add lyrics… if I rework this for release at some point I will keep that in mind and maybe add some voice
OK, finished my swamp darkpsy piece. All white noise tweaked in renoise 3.3.1
But filters, comb, ringmod, 100% resonance etc are allowed, right?
oh yeah, absolutely
anything you care to throw at it, as long as it’s native dsp
resampling is fine, too
