Who Is Into Real Hip Hop Here?

Thanks for reminding me… :) after re-hearing it after years, though… I don’t think they are that great anymore. Just like KRS-One. I liked him a lot back in the days… listening to him today is kinda… tiring.
The same applies to anything hiphop except Wu-Tang, Hieroglyphics (Del) & Definitive Jux stuff for some reason. Jeru, too, btw. but mostly because of DJ Premier. I think he was a great producer

for me the best “hiphop” beat is nothing without good rap.
because its not about the beat. its about the whole …

also i recommend lowkey. top uk artist imo. he is making mostly hiphop but:

I’m into hip hop,
and I must say, renoise is probably the best tool to make it with.
There is simply no better sampler+sequencer out there.

Dabrye uses a tracker (not renoise, but a tracker nonetheless):

Hell yeah. Renoise, a bunch of samples, a reverb unit and a fat compressor is all I’ll ever need, as far as hip-hop is concerned.
Here’s a remix of “Hello” (Ice Cube’s verse only, I wanted his voice specifically for this) that I built almost exclusively around a huge Prince sample. In Renoise of course. Gyeah.

One of them is making some cool stuff these days:

And how come this topic is on page 3 and no one has mentioned madvillain yet?

And here’s my favorite hiphop track of the past 10 years or so:

So yeah, I’m into hiphop. The ‘real’ part seems a bit redundant, though. Or are there people who call themselves fans of fake hiphop?

really dont know why i wrote this beat, it sounds really oldskool, primo-like (aka dj premier)…may be this is just an mpd finger training, really dunno. check, spread, say a word, welcome…pure renoise, vst+vsti, nothing else…

wow, where did ya get info on dabrye using tracker?

Well a quick search brings up this:

Have to admit only really known the 2 AM/FM stuff before and not so much my thing… Surprised to see he is also SK-1 who does work with Soundmurderer. Having a listen to a few bits from different monikers and overall good stuff in a wide variety of genres. Much kudos for that :)

wow had no idea Dabrye was using a tracker. seems to be called ALL SOUND TRACKER.
I know he sold his SP-404 lately

I’m into real beat making, honestly I’ve been through almost all the software out there
I started with acid music 2,3 and 4, sonar, fruity loops, and the last 4 years I’ve been producing with
reason using .rex2 files and so on…

One day my HDD broke down with all the samples, all the projects and all the magic
and I was fucked up for a couple of days… doing other things, thinking what to do and wondering if to
spend 500 or 600$ on the HDD recovery…
then I thought, well I’ve got the skills, let’s try another thing and start up from nothing again.
(MPC’s and MV’s came to my mind, I own an mpk61)

I found renoise (2011) and I’ve got to say that it really fix in the way I work, mostly sampling.

The things I miss from reason are the huge sound library, the individual track swing
(the ability to assign swing to patterns quickly would be largely appreciated)
and the piano roll (right now I can perfectly live without it)

To sum up, i’m really happy with my renoise copy, and somehow, by having to sample everything my own, I’ve learned a couple of things about hip-hop producing, and music production in general.
