Windows: SessionLoops DrumNet VST3 freezes Renoise when trying to load it

Hi,

Anyone experience getting the Drumnet plugin from Session Loops working in Renoise (3.4.4/3.4.3)?

I recently got the plugin, but for some reason it just doesn’t play nice with Renoise. As soon as I try to load it, Renoise instantly hangs completely. I’ve tried it on both my PC and laptop with same results. I know it can work, because it has loaded correctly just one lucky time.

I’ve tried all kinds of settings, like plugin sandbox, single CPU, directsound, ASIO, hardware buffers, nothing has any effect. The plugin works fine in Reaper, FL Studio, as standalone, but it also works fine in Renoise 3.3.x! Which is interesting…

I’m running Windows 10, AMD processor (5800x PC, 3500U Laptop). Not sure if that matters. 32GB mem on both, so that’s not the issue (the plugin loads a ~1GB model). The only other plugin I know that has any comparable freezing issues is ANA2.5, but usually only after a while of browsing presets.

Any tips very much appreciated, although it seems to be a bug.

Kind Regards,
Robn

I can replicate this here on Windows as well. It’s the plugin which deadlocks here, while Renoise is trying to figure out if the plugin has a custom GUI. The workarounds/fixes for us are quite ugly and the plugin also freezes in Ableton Live 11, so the developers may be interested in fixing this on their side.

I’ll contact them and provide further details…

Thank you!

Meanwhile, I figured out that I can drag samples from the standalone version straight into Renoise, so even if they won’t fix it, I can always just use it that way, which is not too bad as far as workarounds go.

The Session Loops guys would like to fix that, but can’t replicate this.

I can easily replicate this (it always freezes) on a machine with Windows 11 Pro 24H2, OS build 26100.2605, using DrumNet Version 1.9.5

@yiNXs what are your system specs?
EDIT: ignore this please. You’ve posted them above already…

I wrote some of it, but I don’t mind adding more details if that could help:

My DrumNet version is 1.9.6.

Just as I was about to post this I was wondering if I could look for older versions on their site. I couldn’t, but I found something else:

https://storage.googleapis.com/sessionloops-bucket/DrumNet.vst3.zip

I took their original download link (https://storage.googleapis.com/sessionloops-bucket/DrumNet_Installer.exe) and checked if their bucket contained different versions. The drumnet VST above is a slightly never version than the one in their original release. This one is released yesterday.

I tried it and that version works, on both machines (takes a while to initialize, but it doesn’t freeze). That could explain why it works for them. I’m curious if this version works for you too.

This is an attempt to fix exactly this issue here and this also works for me. It takes a while to initialize the plugin though.

I just noticed they released 1.9.7 yesterday and they seem have solved the slow initialization too. Everything works great now.

Thanks for all the help and also thanks to the Session Loops people for fixing it so quickly!

Happy new year :fireworks:
