SoOn is sponsoring a competition in the spirit of the Scene compo tradition and to make it a bit more interesting we’ll buy you a beer (or two) if you end up in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.
1st place prize is $20
2nd place prize is $10
3rd place prize is $5
Here are the rules:
You must use at least 10 seconds of one or more of the 10 samples provided. This sample must be identified (via text). But…. You can time shift, reverse, transpose – do anything you’d like in any software and throw it all together in any style with any additional sounds you desire. Do something glorious – make a mockery of the contest – it doesn’t matter – whatever is best wins!
Prize payment will be made via paypal – that is where I have the money for this event stored. If you can’t get a free account then I can’t help you.
A minimum of five (5) entries are needed to trigger payment of the prizes.
Entries are open until 23:59:59 October 31st 2009 GMT
Voting starts 00:00:00 November 1st 2009 GMT and ends November 7th 2009 GMT
Voting will be tallied by Tricky on TiS. Send him a TiS PM or submit your vote by emailing 2009vote at soonlabel.com which will be forwarded to him. His decision of the winners is final.
Entry URLs will be posted to this thread by the entrant or Tricky or myself. Email 2009vote at soonlabel.com with your URL if you do not have or want a TiS account.
SoOn members are eligible to compete – only I can’t since it’s my money and that would make little sense…. Wouldn’t it?
I’d like to thank all of the SoOn members who contributed samples for the contest
I think that covers it.
You can use anything else with the sample(s) in any style you’d like using any combination of additional samples, performance, VSTi, buzz machines, etc. Maximum creativity is the goal and the SoOn samples are used to wrap around the compo.
if you do not post your entry on the traxinspace you must email the link to 2009vote at soonlabel.com in order to have either Tricky or me post it at Traxinspace for you.
If you need hosting for your song I can provide that.
Of course - you can post your tune where ever you’d like and drum up as many votes as you’d like.
ANYONE can vote - just PM tricky at traxinspace or use 2009vote at soonlabel.com
knowing a bit of the technique used to manipulate the sample is always interesting - the requirement is “I used the slap bass sample” and that’s it - nothing complicated
Thank you Jonas !!! Yours is the first entry!!! and I love this kinda jazz - excellent stuff!
I wish you luck - I will post a link to your composition at the boards I am posting contest information to.
Louigi Verona has submitted the 2nd entry to the $25 2009 SoOn Compo http://clones.soonlabel.com/public/2009-So…009_2_final.mp3
It is called Somewhere in 3009
And this entry used the percussion, keyboard progression, and field recording from Europe samples.
A third entry is in, and again it is from the Modplug forum - and is also fantastic! I love the harmony vocals!

I was asked if someone can enter twice on modplug
Well, I didn’t consider if someone wanted to enter twice.
Since there is money on the line it wouldn’t be fair necessarily.
But I understand that people want to have fun and I am NOT policing this competition in any way shape or means. I’m not, for instance, demanding proof of sample use - and if you get your extended family to vote for you… well I guess good for you.
Likuid has submitted I’ll be there SoOn (3:37 minutes of memories)
I use these samples:
1.Ben field recording from Europe
2. Chris feedback lead in A Minor
3. Alpha alpha Keys
Done in 2 hours… My new boy (6 days) and my older girl (18 months, hehe) didn’t let me time to composing… http://clones.soonlabel.com/public/2009-So…oon-contest.mp3
From ceekayed
(the samples) x.wav and feedback in a-minor are used. Weird that the a-minor translated to c# minor on my keyboard. Not a winner genre, but I don’t care, 'twas fun. Thanks for the inspiring samples!
