both have their usage. I would prefer using samples, and with forecoming Renoise versions my usage of samples will surely raise, but probably never reach 100%.

Break rules (as a noun, not as a “to rule” verb form).

This is the era of digital recordings; using analog has still much sense, but being radical about it is senseless.

Overdrive.
Laptop or Desktop________
Desktops are much more usable, have better performances and are cheaper. Laptops, however, have much more flexibility. But I guess you know it, don’t you?

I like VST’s for melodies as they should be more or less in tune with each other… but obviously love samples when sampling/remixing, and I also dig playing around with (spoken) vocals a lot, actually I prefer this to the music itself sometimes (which is more or less just a background… and the kick I get out of vocals with basic music in turn often motivates me to polish the music some). For drums I use samples exclusively (bXX/9XX), but try to avoid loops.

Can anyone really prefer hardware-synths any longer? I have a whole arsenal of hardware-synths and 2 hardware samplers, and I almost NEVER use them anymore. Sure, my Access Virus is better than most VST:s and the jv2080 is great (have 7 expansions), but it so much easier to use software and with some experience you can get at least as good sound with plugins that you can with those… In the same way I prefer digital over analog, I also think the hardware shall go digital

I prefer speakers, but my studio is located in my apartment and I live in a 100 year old, and not very not sound-proof, house so in respect of my neighbors I still use headphones almost all the time I compose…
