Brand Spanking New Renoise (irc) Chat Room!

I thought I’d post here just in case anyone hasn’t read the “Any New Official Renoise Irc Channel?” topic, where I’ve been discussing the new IRC Channel I’ve started for Renoise users. It’s located on irc.esper.net , an irc network that already contains many scene related channels such as #modarchive, #ctgmusic, #mod_shrine, #compost, #outpost, and #modulez. The channel name is #renoise (of course :P)

We will be holding special Renoise “One Hour Compo” (ROHC) music competitions very soon (probably early next week) and I’ve been coding a small php script to help compile the results, and store them on the website I’m putting together for #renoise. We’ve also got a bot (TMAnna… not named after the anna botten song) that’s on loan from m0d/redheat at #modarchive, and is keeping track of channel stats and posting them online for us. She also has the added function of tracking compos, and being able to return the next series of compos to you via PM when you issue the !compo command int he channel. These compos are not only #renoise compos, but also other music competitions which have been tracked by TMAnna in other channels on esper.net, irc.net, and efnet.

To join the channel, you either need an irc client such as MIRC or XChat, or you can click here for a java applet that will allow you to connect to the chat room from any web browser.

If you’re using an actual IRC client, type the following commands to join:
/server irc.esper.net
/join #renoise
(and be sure to add the channel to your favorites :P)

We’ve had some decent traffic over the past few days, with the few people in the channel actually talking up a storm… but we would like to get more people. We’re in desperate need of users in general, but we’re also ok with having idlers… if you’re already on IRC occasionally, we would like to encourage you to add #renoise to your favorites and come idle in our channel. The more idlers we have in our channel, the more people will actually be willing to stick around long enough for someone to notice and start chatting with them. When people see an empty channel, they have a habit of taking off. Either way, feel free to join!! Hopefully we can break the current channel peak of 9 people :yeah:

So yah… we hit a peak of 20 users today… it seems from the quick rise in users to the fact that we’re now on the front page and the chat sections of the site that we’re now the official Renoise chat room!! :D Thanks very much to Bantai and It-Alien for making it official, to kaneel for being the first active (and very supportive) user, and to the rest of the people that have been visiting the channel since I started it two weeks ago… you all rock!

Yep… we had our first Renoise one hour compo (ROHC) today, and it went well… as it was a test compo, I kinda made it a spur of the moment thing, and there were only 5 entries… but it was fun…

the sample pack and the votepack are both linked there… as well as a generated page containing results. I realise it’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but I’m focussing more on the logic than the graphic design of the system atm. Don’t ask me what quoting the renoise site was supposed to prove… either way, the 2 computers he used were ~googoo@adsl-074-236-181-248.sip.shv.bellsouth.net and rigel!~rigel@c-24-7-33-87.hsd1.ca.comcast.net … the first box is in Atlanta, Georgia, and the second is in San Mateo, California. I’d assume that the first one is his home computer. The forum mods might wanna cross check that with the forum records and find out who it is… but I personally don’t care… I’m fine with just having him banned in the channel.

Well neither of those ip-addresses are used by any forummember, neither do they appear as proxy on my blacklist, so i guess we’re not dealing with a regular.
