Can someone recommend good record labels?

(lettuce) #1

Does anyone know some quality record labels with consistent good artists and tunes?

I’m encountering too much wackness these days. Its everywhere.

I checked out R&S. It had a lot of old school 90s acid tracks. Some of them were pretty cool.

I’ll check out somothaship…what I’m looking for really is some good instrumental music.

Maybe to get some nice ideas for production (song structure, buildups, breakdowns, melodies, harmonizations, sound design, basslines).

Any other suggestions?

Ultimae Records for some chilled out ambient stuff. Check out Hybrid Leisureland’s album “Scroll Side”, and Connect.Ohm’s “9980” especially.

Kitchen Label has some nice piano and guitar stuff. Sonicbrat is very good relaxing music.

Only just found Modularfield Records this evening so I can’t say what they’re track record in terms of quality but they have Ann Annie who is very good so it may be worth a look

https://deathwishinc.com/

And if you’re like me and you like a bit of heavy music DeathWishInc are good to. They have Converge and Code Orange. Code Orange’s “Dreams in Inertia”, “Bleeding In The Blur”, and “Mud” are excellent hardcore/sludge rock.

R/S ( also belgian )was on top of their game during the nineties , remember the ‘aphex’ releases on iit’s apollo sub label .

Now 20 years later , they still try to cash in from the classics aphex album …wankers I tell you .;especcially renaat …the owner .

The best label o earth was rephlex , but sadly doesn’t exist anymore

Best release of 2016

ECM. Maybe.

They’ve started steaming so you have chance to listen before buying (more or less).

I say “maybe” because I’ve yet to come across a label where I feel I’d like most of what they release, and ECM is no exception. But I think ECM has at least a consistent mix of bold modern music without being needlessly esoteric.

Some dead labels: Rephlex, Rising High Records
Some popular labels: Warp, Ninja Tunes, Planet Mu

The best footwork label: Teklife

But I don’t know exactly what you are looking for?

electronic brand name

(lettuce) #11

Nice. Thanks. I will spend some time to check out all of these.

When I’m feeling like dark techno, industrial, etc., L.I.E.S. certainly delivers.

But also want to point out what TOUCHED MUSIC is doing.

They’re basically a charity, and have put out consistently great music since starting.

Peaceville

Probably as far from what you were looking for as it could get, but it’s a good label. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Beatslaughter) #14

N5MD, Hymen Records and Tympanik Audio do great for me.

(sokoban) #15

TOUCHED and LIES are badass, especially Tzusing.

I like most of WEME as well.

Can anyone recommend more labels like that?

Nice sound design, much energy…creative rythm.

I liked the tunes that were in 5 and 7 but they are too difficult to keep time with for a dancer or a drummer.

I’m still listening through all the labels here.

EXIT 出口 records has some nice material yo!
