There was a moderately sized discussion about this a while ago:

Tint Tracks In Their Colors, Not Just Show Them As A Bar On Top Ideas & suggestions

it would have to be optional of course… or even better, with changeable opacity (for ALL tracks, not a per track setting) from 0% (off) to 99% (silly).

Opinions are quite divided, to say the least
