Extremist Apple Fanboys And Fangirls....

I hope you understand I cannot take you seriously if your conclusions are based on using OSX 7 times.

Until I bought a new graphics card for my desktop so it could play HD material the answer to most, if not all those question was around 5-6 years and I’m talking PC with XP Pro. Then that was just for drivers, as graphics are best installed earlier so decided to do a fresh install.

My housemates have had shit loads more trouble with their Macs than I ever have with my PCs. Saying that my other housemate with a PC has loads of trouble, but then I relalised he was trying to run XP on 512MB RAM so donated him 2GB and it’s now like a dream for him

Only time I ever see a virus near my computer is when I let my housemates put their memory sticks from their Macs into my PCs. They may not be being affected by it (unsure) but they are definitely infected!

Haha, lovely! “Grab your swords and shields, boys! The Leopards are coming!” Just wondering… when did you (Jenoki, kazakore) flip? BEFORE the part where I mentioned WHY I prefer Mac over PC?

There wouldn’t be Apple extremists, if PC-people would accept not everyone thinks like them. I’m not an extremist, I don’t care that much about computers, but defending ‘the underdog’ is enough to get the tag.

I’v had my laptop (macbook pro) for 4 years…never a problem until…recently upgraded to the leopard…it’s messed everything up. It runs slower, and has removed certain things which i miss.
DONT RUN LEOPARD ON OLD LAPTOPS.
I did it cos i wanted to play RED ALERT 3…
stupid <_<

Mac is no longer an underdog. It hasn’t been for quite some time. Almost everyone I know is pushing Macs these days.

Financially, Apple rates significantly better than Microsoft at the moment: http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/wizards/srwcompare.asp?company2=MSFT&Symbol=AAPL

OSX is just better made for audio than Windows. Anyone used a Mac seriously and disagree with this?
I’m happy with either system though.

Nah, not at all sir! :) Just a lame discussion-technique I used. But fact is that I merely pointed out why I prefer Mac over PC, which only had to do with how I use computers in general. I don’t download (soft)warez, don’t use it for gaming, etc… so, can’t say what others do with their Mac and thus can’t back them up. For all I know, it runs a vast hardcore porn network. ;)

Syfloam, if all the VSTs I used existed on OSX, I’d switch to a hackintosh instantly. I refuse, however, to pay exorbitant amounts of $$ for the same hardware I can buy for 1/3 of the cost elsewhere.

Yes, that IS the biggest FAIL when switching from PC to Mac. On the other hand, it ‘forced’ me (strictly speaking I forced myself) to learn some decent audiodesign. I can proudly say I can do some things with a square or saw, where others need Albino or Massive and I wouldn’t have learned if I still had Albino at my disposal. Hurrah? Well, depends on your priorities, I guess.

What makes you think I flipped? I just mentioned I’ve had just as few problems with my PC is as many years as you have with your Mac, and my desktop is and always has been on 24/7.

I recommend Mac to people occasionally, when I really do think it will suit their purpose (or they are already acclimatised to Logic) but generally wont unless they are a student, and thus get a good discount, have money to spare or are getting it through some kind of bursary.

In fact I listed a few of my bigger issues with Apple on a different forum in a similar discussion. There business ethic is worse than M$ these days!

There is a reason why most the software that was once Mac only (Pro Tools and Avid for prime examples) now runs on both and is generally actually recommended to be run on a PC unless you are already a Mac user and more familiar with it.

And no I don’t do any gaming or anything whatsoever that usually people use as the main argument (other than cost) for going for a PC over mac.

Nah, you didn’t ‘flip’, sorry for that one. Just that I found your arguments in defence had no relevance to my arguments of why I use a Mac and thus shoved you in the ‘defensive corner’ for my own convenience. Sorry dude, no harm meant :)

Fair enough. We have four people in this house who use their machines almost exclusively for music. Two of them have PCs, two of them have Macs. For the almost a year I’ve been here there has been a lot more headaches and times spent trying to solve issues with the Macs than the PCs. I just don’t think the old argument that Macs are better/more stable/reliable holds up any more. Don’t think it really has since they went from the 68k processors to the PPC, and now they are also on Intel they do do a little more research than your average PC vendor, but not more than if you are able to build one yourself or actually put a bit of time into researching what works well out of the slightly (only few months really) hardware and is tried and tested. Sure at the very top end spec’s, especially with their exclusivity contracts, you can probably get something pretty stable reliably than with a PC but at what cost?

But if it’s what you’re used to/you want to use logic/you care more about aesthetics than anything else/weight&size to power ratio are important AND you can afford it then why not.

I’ve used PCs since day 1, switched to Mac about a year and a half ago and was very happy about the switch, despite losing all VST’s. In my experience, Mac is a whole lot more stable. But then again, I don’t have any cracked stuff on there, neither did I have on my (last) PC and I can imagine that does make a difference, no matter what OS you’re on. But then AGAIN (yes again), I know too little about computers to know if it does.

Not a single Warez on my PC. Had a few on my secondary partition of my desktop when I was still trying to work out what I wanted to use. Found Renoise, liked it, bought it. Realised there was so much good freeware around I didn’t really need to be using warezed anything. I know some of the bits on my mates Macs are cracked and that could cause some of the stability issues. But as Jenoki mentioned he’s had stability issues with university machines and I would be worried if they were running warez or allowing students to install crap or mess with the system.

As I said there are situations where I will recommend people do go with a Mac if they are split but it’s probably less than one in ten times. I’m not a PC purist but I do feel that Macs being more stable/reliable than PCs is a myth these days. Sure there is less viruses aimed at them, but that is probably about it.

Probably because they run on a Windows server. ;)

Sounds like the early comments about Windows Vista!!!

Haha, aight okay. So. Who prefers PS over XBOX? :P

Don’t play games much so personally don’t give a s&*t. Hated the initial XBox controller then lived with a guy who had a 360 for a couple of years and got quite used to it. Was almost tempted to buy a Xbox360 for the living room a while ago for drunken evenings but never did in the end, know my housemates would of got so much more use of of it than me. PS3 is undoubtedly but at the time (about a year ago) nobody was utilising it properly and there was no real point in spending the extra money for one over the 360, I came to prefer to 360’s controller over time and their online server is a LOT more stable than Sony’s.

I know you weren’t really expecting a response but heck, I felt like it. Probably a bit of a less barbed subject on an audio forum than Mac/PC.

I’m using Windows Vista Basic and I really like it. I find it to be the fastest, easiest to use and most stable system I’ve ever used. The systems I’ve used are Windows 3, 95, 98, ME, Vista, Various Unix flavours, Linux Ubuntu 8, AmigaOS 1.3 to 3.9, 68k Mac (system 7 or something)…

The only XP computer I’ve tried was totally messed up btw… Slow as syrup…

Haha, yeah true on both ;)

I have a PS3 for gaming, but I only use it when I have some friends over for the gaming-occasion. Never played on an XBOX, I bought the PS3 because, in the end, I just have too much money. Hence the Mac ;)
