SID chip is the shit !
the SID chip gets its own tracker, too!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GoatTracker
but the download link is dead right now :[
once youve downloaded these sounds, how do you use them?
You should ask Sinatra, he’s into chiptunes and
has created some realy good ones in renoise. He’s a nice
guy and i bet he has some xrns floating around Right Øyvind ?
There are some users on Freesound who have uploaded some pretty good chip samples -
HardPCM
Hardpause

They all seem to be Tracker artists as well…
this is their homepage with downloads of their great SID related SW: http://covertbitops.c64.org/
i recommend quadraSID tho…
thepiz plugs are really cool, problem is that most produce untuned output, means you can’t play a melody or something because you are not really hearing the notes you are playing frequency-wise. I sometimes selection-render the output and tune it manually though.
Hi everybody,
I know this topic is old but I think it’s never too late to put a good link, I think !
I would like to share to you my webpage dedicated to chipmusic (8bit music, lo-fi music, micromusic, chiptune) :
http://woolyss.com/chipmusic.php
You will find many links to :
- VSTi plugins(freewares mainly) directly downloadable, sorted by emulation type
- good chiptrackers (without hardware emulator)
- chiptune webradios
- chiptune composers
- chiptune netlabels
- chiptune hardwares
- chiptune generators
- more and more audio demos about each VSTi plugin !

Thank you. Enjoy !
My all-time favorite chiptune VST Plugin (and I tried a lot!) : Plogue chipsounds
Lightweight, accurate and sounds amazing…

You are on a Windows PC yeah? If not give up now.
Simply put them in a folder, different programs and installers have slightly different paths as default, I use “C:\Program Files\VST Plugins” personally.
Open Renoise Preferences, Plugin/Misc and at the top Browse to the folder where you have put the .dll files.
Hit Rescan.
Then to load it in Renoise you go to Instrument Settings on the Lower Pane, VST Instrument Properties and select it from the drop-down list.
Looking at the Tutorial pages there isn’t a simple description for getting a plugin instrument working in Renoise and it could be a good idea to go through all these steps on one page. Searching “VST*” bring up this lest Search results for "VST" - Renoise User Manual* whereas a simple tutorial on how to get a VST/AU/DSSI instrument saved, accessible by Renoise, loaded and playing a note all in one place may be good for beginners…
Is it just me or is Renoise not perfectly suited to make chiptune w/o vstis?
Does it not come included with chip xrnis?
For chordal sounds just layer and pitch accordingly no?
Built in arpeggio effect?
Lofimat?
Ring Mod?
Use pitch envelopes for laser/gun,perc fx?
Vibrato command?
Obviously vstis can work wonderfully but the idea seems a bit redundant when Renoise seems to be a capable chip instrument in and of itself.
Wow, this thing is old. Uhmmmmm… LofiMat?
EDIT: And does anyone else notice that he only made 2 posts on this forum in his life, and both were near the beginning of this thread? He hasn’t responded to a huge fraction of the ideas thrown in!
With IT-Alien’s “Generate Custom Wave” tool making chiptune-like sounds in Renoise is even easier now!
