incredibly simple question: recorded drumbeat to pattern data?

Hi, how do I take a very, very simple drumbeat (literally 2 different sounds) recorded from outboard gear, and press a button that both chops the original loop into two separate samples (in either a combined instrument, or two separate instruments) and generates the pattern data according to the beat?

I’m not talking crazy jazz drumming with velocity here, just a simple beat with no velocity, and almost no overlap between the samples being played at the same time.

is there a tool for this… or is there a native renoise solution?

Mmm, looks like a combination of the waveform editor’s transient detection and the “slices to pattern” tool could handle this exact thing.

Okay, that seems sensible. Thanks! One other question : Slices to Pattern - Is there a Renoise 3.0 version?

Edit : Ok, 2.8 version works with 3.0 after conversion. and i was able to find the Pattern → Slices to pattern after looking at what dBlue said about where it would be…

Ok, this is where it gets hairy. I was hoping to chop loops like this, then start adding additional beats on top of them (layer drumbeats on top of eachother) - how do i now isolate this drum-mapped instrument into separate, editable hits?

ok there was some way to destructively slice samples or something. i think this’ll get me closer to where i want to go… hmm.

thanks for all the help!

I guess the result depends on whether the Slices-to-pattern tool is using Sxx commands or notes (the latter should work fine)
