The Aphex Twin is strong in this one, a brilliant little tune though. I can hear you had a lot of fun with this. It also sound awesome and very weird somehow. What did you do in terms of stereo processing?
For example, the purring in the beginning sounds very wide. Like it envelops me. When I hit the mono button the top end disappeared but the bass survives.
When is removed from soundcloud it disapears. You can create multiple soundcloud account with different email adresses if you do not want it to disapear. Just know that each soundcloud user needs a unique user name.
I’m stuck with my tune, not sure where to take it next. So I’m looking for feedback. Especially on the mix but if you have any other suggestions they’re welcome, too.
@eretsua
I would add a snare or an alternative like a stick for example. At the moment the clap is pretty dominant, not only because of its volume. Regarding the mix, I would decrease the volume of the laser, the clap, the “pluck” at 0:28 and the loud effect “pad” at 1:30. I would increase the volume of the kick just a little or add some more “power” (bass, punch) by compression and/or parallel processing stuff, but slightly. And I would push the background stuff a little more. At least that’y my first impression, I checked through headphones and speakers.
But damn, now I know what I have to expect from your track. I wanted to be surprised.
Ok, thanks. That’s what I thought. Yes, I was thinking about creating a second SC account so that I can put my Elektro stuff in one and my Synthwave stuff in the other, but I discarded this idea. This would only make sense if I would be musically as active as in the past, but this is not the case because of lack of time. And no matter how you look at it, webspace remains limited. I’m not willing to pay for Soundcloud for several reasons. So it is clear that as soon as I delete my track it will disappear from the MBC playlist, probably in a couple of years. That’s life. Nothing lasts forever, right?
Thank you @TNT ! Much appreciated. Think you’ve got some good points there. I’m gonna toy with your suggestions.
I’m sorry about that (and thank you!). There’s a part in the xrns file that’s not in the render. That goes in a different direction. Haven’t found a way yet to connect the two sections but if I do there is hope you’ll be surprised by the final version.
The beat as is it sounds to me like a horse walking so why not put a horse voice in there too, maybe opposite a cat talking to each other or something like that
i just started reading a book on mixing. people used to tell me there’s not enough bass in my tracks, i guess i overdone it this time. i think there are problems with composition itself
Fanks! (no, but seriously, for a guy like me that’s like the highest praise possible, TY!)
Ahh, ok, had to check - for the purring stuff, the sample is being played for one bar, and then repeated over the 2nd bar while the first one is still running. In terms of the stereo processed - there’s an LFO on that track tied to the “stereo expander” device’s surround parameter (though the actual "expand is actually brought down to almost mono). No real thought process here - just thought it sounded good.
For some of the later stuff it’s also having a break programmed in one channel and then repeated in the other channel, but with slight variations between the two. Ends up sorting of sounding like 1 break but has wider “field” effect. TTFN!
Wow, loving this tune! I think TNT is pretty on the money in terms of which sounds to bring up/back in the mix (he’s got excellent ears/excellent handle on mixing/mastering - some great tips from him in the Template thread I know I’m poring over/studying). In particular, bringing up some of the background stuff to the fore later in the track - feels like it’s juicy/lots texture but getting lost a bit in the mix.
In terms of tunage - maybe consider a few bars towards the end (say around 1:40ish) where you drop the beat altogether. Let some of those blips/beats/bops sort of float around a bit - there’s tons of good atmosphere in there, part of me just wants to kind of luxuriate in it.
Ofc just my HOP - frankly, as is I think the track is fantastic and wouldn’t necessarily say to change anything musically (the above is just what I, personally, tend to gravitate towards in a track). Happy tuneage!
You might not be able to listen it from everywhere, here is what I get when trying to access your link:
NOTICE TO USERS IN FRANCE
Because of French government demands to remove creators from our platform, Rumble is currently unavailable in France. We are challenging these government demands and hope to restore access soon.
Thanks! And thanks for the new term “on the money”, I’ve never heard this term before. Yes, and @eretsua shouldn’t forget to soften the “tear of paper” at 0:40 and 0:58, too. He tends to have too much loudness in terms of all of his effect samples in general. I just can repeat to mono mix first and to check through headphones AND speakers. If you do that you’ll be good.
Youtube is already the “trashcan” of my music. Most of my tracks of the last 10 years can be heard on Youtube, but in a fucked up sound quality. I really have to get a new video program. The sound quality is not only because of Youtube, it’s mainly because of my outdated video program (Windows movie maker). Anyway, I’ve even cleaned my Youtube 10 years ago and deleted every single song, I think 70-80 songs in total. This can happen anytime again. Depends on my mood and my future plans. But thanks for the link to “Rumble”. Seems to be “Youtube Light” with a couple of users. I never heard about Rumble before, but it looks reasonable ok.
I’d recommend Blender, it’s free and can render PCM and FLAC and is way better than WMM, which is only a joke.
IMO it’s even better than After Effects which i used in the past.
Thanks for the tip. I installed “DaVinci Resolve 18” yesterday, which is a professional software for free and pretty easy to use. I checked the sound after creating a video and it seemed to be good. At least there are no artifacts, distortions and soft noise just like in a video made with Windows Movie Maker. If contrary to expectations DaVinci Resolve doesn’t make me happy there’s another great alternative which is called “Filmora”. Filmora is specialized for web presentation stuff just like Youtube vids and other social media shit. I think I will check it out, too.
I’d say its learning curve is similar to After Effect, but Blender is by far a way more advanced software, so you can learn new things for years and still not know it all.
There are plenty of tutorials on youtube and such, most of them related to 3D work, but probably more than enough for its video editor too.
To use it for making advanced effects like realistic water simulations and such into your video it will of course be more difficult than simply sequencing videos, but once you know the basics of blender then you can just look up a tutorial for whatever you want to achieve and you will learn it in no time.
They are probably easier choices if you only use it to cut and sequencing clips and maybe some text and such.
Blender can be quite intimidating because it has so many different windows and menus, but it’s a lot easier than it looks. Just open a new “Video project” and start dragging clips into the timeline. Anything can be animated and you can even use audio to control just about any parameter you can think of.
I have been working on and off on a tutorial project that involves using Renoise to make a music video in Blender. Hopefully i will finish it soon. The challenge is making it easy to follow while still showing many of the possibilities and make it look appealing all at once.
