Mutant Breaks #6

Hey look… Sendspace tried bundling crapware with that XRNS. Lovely.

D Fast - Joyous Adventure (mp3)
D Fast - Joyous Adventure (xrns) psswrd prtctd: nevergiveup

chillout / downtempo / easy-listening / jungle / pop

A bit of a fresh approach for me to my usual genre experimenting - and this time with vocals!

Did I hear a banjo in that mix? Lovely sound.

No banjo I’m afraid. List of the equipment used in that tune:

Renoise 2.8.0.
Acoustic guitar
Electric guitar
Electric bass guitar
My voice
Friend’s drumkit for some of the drums
Roland Juno-106

For recording:
Focusrite Liquid preamps
T-Bone SC450 microphone

If you take a look at the xrns, you’ll see that I’m one messy renoiser - I just don’t bother naming all the tracks or samples. Organized chaos is what works best for me :)

My first post on the forum :w00t:/>/>/> Here’s my daft entry. Just started with breaks not so mutant but I had fun.

I guess I know who I’m gonna vote for.

Sounds pretty good. If you perform some (well, do a lot until you get sick of it frankly) voice warming up before doing the actual recordings, your vocal cords get some stretching and it helps to keep control over the power that you put on them.
Also the intro reminded me a bit lot of R.E.M. - Man on the Moon…

The biggest problem is that when I’m in the mood/zone, there is very little time to give the moment any serious thoughts if I wish the mood to remain intact. Inspiration zones in and out and I always try to seize the moment as fast as possible, resulting in mistakes here and there and also lack of pre-work required to achieve a so called perfect take - especially with vocals. I never really practised singing, I just go out there and do what feels good to me and usually I the good feeling lasts during the first take only. So, what you’re hearing is pretty much first takes with every instrument I recorded for this song. I’m very lazy when it comes to warming up, even with sports (and that is also unhealthy/risky).

And yeah, it took me a while to realize why the intro seemed similar to me as well!

Nothing wrong with seizing the moments, the framework is always the most important part of anything you built.
Perhaps try to do the retakes afterwards

Ho hey, version 3 entry a re-write ? well who would’ve thunk…

If you want this version instead
I have an 18mb drums only xrns and a 50 kb drum pattern only xrns.

“xrns_mtb06rewrite_18mb” - “xrns_mtb06rewrite_50kb” location.

That was fucking great!

Am i in the right competition? :P
Usually i break a lot of mutants, but strangely enough i ended up with something quite different.
It’s not completely finished yet, but i had to deliver something before deadline as i can’t afford to lose my chance of getting beaten by a baguette. :D

Not going to make this deadline I’m afraid…

The output so far is real fun and eclectic!

Here’s my first jungle/breakcore track since… hmmm 2003? Wow… didn’t realize it’s been that long :P/>
