Mute Track Command

Hi, I apologize for the newbie question but…

Is there a hex command for muting a track?

Ive tried just automating the volume of the track but the track has effects on it ( like delays which keep playing but I want to just cut out like I hit mute).

If there isn’t a command, any good suggestions for a work around?
