First off, I’d like to thank you for your excellent content on YouTube, I’ve been a subscriber of yours for a long time and really admire your technical skill and ingenuity.
As I said, this whole AI thing is a big subject and I’m not going to talk here about my views on the matter, but regarding the “computer assist” you mention… I mean, even the fact that I’m typing right now here is “computer assisted”… the Renoise program and everything we use these days on our pc’s and mobile devices are made using computers (and maths that we didn’t invent in the first place). The paint brushes and splotches in my artwork were made using a Wacom tablet and a computer… even if I did everything by hand, I still would have to scan, crop etc using a computer. What I’m trying to say is that the term “computer assisted” is really vague and I’m not sure if there’s even a meaning in mentioning something like that.
This is about music, not about cover art. Imho it’s ridiculous to quit participating just because @Achenar used AI to create a cover that literally no one except me is using, and the part in question isn’t even visible after being cut in order to get a square cover. If some of you used AI to generate some vocals by converting your own one, so what? As long as you didn’t use AI to compose or to mix/master, who cares? Again, this is about music, no one cares about cover art!
I care.
And no, the part AI generated was not cropped, the letters were also AI.
Just to be clear, I don’t have a problem with Achenar using AI for the artwork… I already said I used AI in my song. But in this case, the whole artwork was made with AI and that’s why I said I didn’t want to continue with other design proposals.
I wonder how many people look at the 5 cm x 5 cm mini cover art by Achenar on SoundCloud and say to themselves “This entire contest is full of AI crap”.
Btw, I didn’t use AI at all in my song. And I don’t care about covers at all. Music and cover art are two completely different things. And this is about music, no one will vote for cover arts! Personally I don’t even look at the covers…
@TNT Looking back at the history of music, I’m not sure music and artwork are two totally different things. And I get it you don’t care, you’ ve made your point clear by repeating it again and again,in a way actually that seems like all artwork is trash. But, your opinion is this and is respected. Just no need to repeat it another 3-4 times. We got it.
I’m 100% sure that music and artwork are two totally different things. I’m not only a hobby musician, I’m a designer myself. That’s how I make my living. Huge difference between creating a song and designing a cover, poster, logo, shirt or whatever. Yes, there were some popular covers back in music history, but especially today in the streaming world no one cares. And what are we talking about here? We’re talking about a fun “contest” within a forum that no one knows about. Some people seem to take this waaaaay too serious.
@xenobaba Regarding the voting, the points for meeting specific criteria etc, how do you measure these things? Do you open and inspect each submission file? Do we vote for these also? Thanks.
I mean, I use AI myself every now and then and I’m fine with it. But what annoyed me here was that someone already took the time to make a solid, real cover, only for it to be replaced by an AI one without even labeling it as AI.
Ok, even if covers are completely irrelevant, this is a fair point. So for the sake of humanity I replaced Achenar’s cover with Mano.G’s cover. But not without adding my own touch to it. More humanity, you know? And now we’re having a completely different situation here, right? Replacing the cover changed everything, right?
Please remove this @TNT. I already used this for my track both on SoundCloud and on YouTube, and I did not give any permissions to you to alter my work and use it. This artwork was meant for the contest and only admins could edit this and use it. Since you are a designer, you can go on and make your own artwork. Thanks.
No problem, I won’t use any cover at all! And I withdraw my submission from the competition. This isn’t fun anymore, people are way too petty. Ridiculous! Anyway, thanks and good luck! I’m sure @stoiximan will win, he’s clearly got the best submission in every aspect.
But why you keep saying that @stoiximan will win?.. It’s the third or fourth time you say this. What makes you so sure? Personal taste? Aren’t we supposed to vote for this? What’s the point of repeating it throught this whole month, other than just expressing your personal preference? You know something that all the rest of us don’t? Is the whole voting thing a sham? Why you keep saying it again and again, really?
That’s what I personally think, simple as that. He achieved everything what it’s all about in this contest and this theme. The whole voting thing is about personal taste btw. Please remove my song from the list @Achenar , thanks!
The guy posted his submission, and like some mixing/mastering guru you obviously are, you made remarks about his work, and I don’t think he asked for it. No one else - at least in this topic - jumped to comment on technical aspects of other people’s work. Just you.
Apologies to everybody for threadjacking the topic. I don’t intend to continue with this.
What exactly is your problem? That was just a normal feedback as always, and if you’re posting something you’ll get feedback, whether it’s about the composition, about mixing/mastering or both. That’s the way it is and obviously you’re the only one who’s seemingly got a problem with it. Btw, it’s not uncommon to use “official” covers from the competition in order to show that a song was made for that competition respectively is part of that contest. Of course you could also use your own cover art, but in my case I consider designing a cover a waste of time. So if you’re designing a cover art for the whole competition… Anyway, it doesn’t matter.
The AI poster was supposed to encourage people to put ‘AI in its place’ with their music, representing humanity by doing so. I’ve changed the cover of the playlist to something new, so hopefully people will still want to stay in the competition and on the playlist.
Huh, I would have thought the whole “publicly share the XRNS” thing would dampen some of this debate. I doubt anyone hooked up AI to enter their boom-baps into Renoise for this, and even if they did, I don’t think they’d get many votes.
To me, the theme kind of welcomes the idea of flipping an AI sample to make a statement. Nobody said it was against the rules, and it’s obviously relevant. Definitely prefer the playlist cover being swapped with something non-AI, though. With this sort of thing, it’s best for the organizers to remain neutral.
I’ll disclose that I used Ultimate Vocal Remover (which uses neural nets or something) in order to remove the BGM from some dialogue from Serial Experiments Lain. I perhaps could have pirated the OST to null it by hand. Feel free to roast me for this.
TNT dont withdraw your submission and Mano.G is right to complain about you repeating that my tarck is the best one, just drop it.I get that you feel you must encourage me some more to continue meking music and thank you but its annoying to others .I didnt want to say anything and i wouldnt but this little conflict of yours must end here.Lets continue with the voting and more music from now on
No, I don’t like the mood and attitude here, and I generally don’t like MBC anyway. I just participated because of @xenobaba and the fact that there’s a theme I can at least relate to a little bit. Withdrawal confirmed! Removement from the list required @Achenar. I’ll possibly delete my song soon anyway. Have fun voting, guys.
