Mvt∆n†•br∑∆kz•#17••• OH THE HUMANITY!

(ok @Mano.G, didn’t get the convo right)

To be fair, he didn’t make any AI art. Initially, he used Achenar’s which was made with AI.

Sorry to see your song go @TNT
It was one of the best, imo. Not that I get to vote since I didn’t submit :upside_down_face:

These things are just supposed to be for fun and camaraderie. It’s always a bit unfortunate to see hurt feelings around what’s supposed to draw us together, but I suppose that is also an aspect of what it means to be human.

Going to try to get the voting thread set up today

OK everyone, Voting thread is live

Has PanosK withdrawn from compo? I can’t see his contribution in the list

No,i just dont use soundcloud anymore

@RudeCorps isn’t listed either.

No worries, it’s always clear from the start what kind of song/sound wins MBC.

But it mostly turns out to be something else, right? I mean, now there are even people who complain about cover arts and feedback… Guess what the consequences are. :speak_no_evil_monkey:

Really like this one!very crafty!

This should’ve been my entry for MutantBreaks#17
but I missed the deadline by almost 14 days. :frowning:

If i counted right, most of the time this is in 17/8.
LBP is also 17 and you can find multiples and fractions of 17 in almost every setting.

Finest attraction is of course the Vocoder realized just with Renoise-DSPs.
For that i dug deep in the Renoise-Forum an found this thread from 2009 by @nxpnsv and in it the work over by @flapjackspeeder (Joltz)

I recovered the file »renoise-vocoder2.xrns« with the waybackmachine and from that rebuild it to my needs and tweaked the frequency bands. The voice samples are done with Apples say command using the voice of Alex. I then split up syllables and sometimes vocals and consonants,
to get the timing right. It almost works, but since it’s still hard to understand here are the lyrics:

Oh the humanity
quite the short history
compared to was has been

lost in space certaintly
damned to be sentiently
questionig everything

Oh the humanity
thinks it is at the peak
self centered definitely

always persuing control
when it is after all
just rational animals

General idea is, to let a computer sing about his views on humanity, which should fit the theme of the competition, or did i miss it?

There is also more happening in the samples. There is for example a quite metallic ride sound (very prominent) that is
realized with ring filters. Two of the drumsets (ZIMT- and Bossadrums) i recorded from old radio recordings. But the rest i let you discover for your self: twist-f-OhTheHumanity-MBC#17.xrns (2.9 MB)

A good portion of working on this song happened while traveling through france on holidays.
I was very optimistic to finish till the 15th but it was still holidays. So here it is for you to enjoy.
Love to hear you’re opinion on this, even though it’s not in the vote

I will listen to your entries now and later on, i wanted to finish this first, to not be demotivated.
Thanks for running this competition @xenobaba and for pushing me to finish this indirectly.

This is great

Too late for the competition/voting, but maybe @Achenar could add it to the playlist for inclusion in any case

Excellent work

A pity you didn’t make it in time for the compo…
First of all it has melody, plus it sounds well balanced and is good mixed AND it even solved the 17 LPB + signature challenge. Well done! I would have voted that first without doubt!
(All this is my personal opinion.)

The instrumentation is very nice, I dig especially the pads (chords) and the blip/drop (melody). The composition is cool imho, I like how you’re playing with the frequencies of the chords and how you’re sometimes combining the chords with the vocoder sound. The melody of the blip/drop is matching the uneven beat that doesn’t really sound uneven despite the “cut” at the end. Good job on the drums, too. Personally I would soften the snare a little and push the bass a little more. But the mix has a good balance overall. The vocoder sound matches the instrumentation and sounds quite nice, unfortunately it’s completely unintelligible, I can’t understand a single word. In order to improve clarity it’s required to increase high frequencies of the modulator a lot, and to decrease low frequencies if necessary. You may also need to highlight and to reduce certain parts of the vocal sample, and don’t forget about de-essing. Just play around a little, the results also depend on the carrier, but the basics must be set in the modulator. Nevertheless nice work. :slightly_smiling_face:
