I’ve messed around with Sidizer, and it really chomps CPU like nothing else. That default lead patch is boss though.
For me, well, I like Massive. With this vst I can get an idea of a sound in my head, and it’s very easy to dial whatever I want into it and get what I want. I love how you can easily route multiple parameters to one of the knobs that is easily automatable through Renoise. Ease of use is huge with me, and anyone who doesn’t believe me, try using Helix. (That thing’s a mess)
I guess Element’s on sale too. Maybe I’ll pick it up.
I can tell you my worst buy. It was only like $100, but NI’s Razor was awful. I thought I would be getting a mangle machine where I could get strange pads and Amon Tobin-like noises, but what I got was a limited synth with HUGE CPU issues. One instance with that thing could eat up 60% of my CPU.
My absolutely most favorite recent synth is Oxium, from Xils-lab.com. However, its not for everybody. I bought it nearly a year ago? Whenever it was first released… It had some bugs in Renoise but I worked with Xavier to get everything sorted out. ** Most of the important stuff sorted out.
The ice skin, that came with the recent group buy, causes problems… But if you use the original orange skin (which I happen to like a lot) the synth works great/stable… Make sure you demo throughly, because we all have different systems.
Oxium is not going to be for everybody.
Oxium is one of those synths that you need to, “spend time to learn,” because it reveals a lot of mysteries.
The masque is really powerful, and perhaps one of the coolest gates ever made, but its not plug and play. You really have to tweak and feel that feature out.
Edit = “worked with Xavier.” is: emailing him and complaining and getting him to fix stuff. Not, “working in an office.” Just wanted to make that clear.
Audulus - A very cool modular synth, it’s not as capable as Reaktor but I find it easier and more fun to use, the maths expression node makes it uber powerful. It’s mac/ipad only though…
NI Reaktor with Razor, Skanner XT and The Mouth (last NI Reaktor sale)

a Behringer bcr2000, most versatile controller and amazing with Renoise, since Renoise is the best in terms of midi mapping (to be able to select if absolute, relative, etc…). Also, the Launchpad S. My first launchpad. I realize how awesome it is with Renoise and Duplex. So much better than with Ableton. I’m using Bidule as a VST and built a patch to switch Duplex layouts, well, just assigned them using an HID module inside Bidule. Renoise is the best in every aspect!
