Need Help With Making A Reece

ive been trying to make a specific reece sound now for a while and i havnt managed to get the sound i want.could anyone offer some advice??i realisei have to have two sawtooth osc and one detuned by around 10-25 cents…but for some reason i can never get the exact sound i want.the sound im looking for can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhC9rE2y_MY it is the bass sound that starts at 32 seconds.the main problem im having is phasing.it just seems to phase too much when i compare it with this,so the bass doesnt have that solidness too it.i think i remember someone on a random forum sayin back in the day they used to stretch out a 909 kik,to make this king of pad.

I can do you one better. Here’s the actual bass sound used in that song: http://illformed.org/temp/Bass-Jungle.xrni

Definitely a classic sound. I can’t remember where I first got this one from, but I’ve had it for years, and it’s been used in a lot of jungle, garage, etc.

u my friend are a saint.this is it alright, but at the same time i would love to know how to synthesize it!!look like a sin with a saw??im not sure,i just cant get it right…

It’s actually a pulse wave with a shitload of pwm, and the filter turned way down. It’s a preset on an Alpha Juno 2.

is there a vst??

I’m not the guy to ask about that, but if you guys want I can make a xrni without the filter turned down and some more samples.

ye man that would sweet.thnx a lot bro

If you have Arguru Voyager then here’s a patch I made that gets pretty close to that sound. I made it a while ago and just tweaked it a little bit now. It’s not totally perfect, but maybe it’ll work out.

I think I’ll try to improve it a bit later, cause I do love that original sound. Most of the time I just use the sample to be honest.

can’t you just use the chip square and a low pass? and some eq obviously…

nope

AlphaJuno2_Reece_Lowpass.xrni

AlphaJuno2_Reece_Brilliant.xrni

cheers

Looovely :)

Ah, I’ve got the sample as well + a few variations. First time I noticed the sample was in a dnb track by a tracker called Dead Style aka Klikka Tulling aka Mr Gosh aka …

Oh the memories.

Nice instruments btw, cheers Fullofkittens!

Indeed !

I tried to reproduce this kind of “simple” lowpassed reece in z3ta, but if I just lowpass a basic reece then it sounds like it’s too phased and resonant, not clean at all.

This “AlphaJuno2_Reece_Lowpass.xrni” sounds perfect to my ears. Someone can try to explain exactly how it can be done in any synth ?

very simple

i renoise sample editor create new soun
draw a saw wave.
copy as many copies to other instrument slots as you like
on each instrument change a pitch beatween -100 and +100 finetune values on each sample diferent…
then add those samples in one track and render as single sound, add filters distortions and you have it…

hope i made my self clear, probobly i could make some litlle tutorianl on that…

Try this DSP chain on chipSine.xrni:

Any good to you guys? This is the renoise-DSP’s only version of the chain.

It sounds a little cleaner when I apply the “F Stereo Imager” or “Stereoizer” VST to it, with its bandwidth parameter set to about “300 cutting up”.

EDIT: Thanks to FullOfKittens for the breakdown of what a Reece is made of :)

Check this out, its very nice!

i would buy it but it doesnt accept free email adresses,so fuck that…i have massive anyways

Looks great. I’ll try the demo, cheers.
