Renoise+laptop+audiointerface

G’day G’day all,

I wonder if anyone has sum helpful tips for me, i am saving for an interface:

:yeah:
I have a core duo laptop, with 4 x USB2 and a 4-pin Firewire iLink.
Also I have a desktop rig , coupla years old ATM

I am wanting to have a total ‘mobile ability’ for my LAW (lappy audio workstaion :P)

Apparently , the 4-pin can’t ‘bus-power’ devices. Some more expensive laptops have the 6-pin.
\ I was keen on the RME Fireface400 but

My options so far are:

  1. a PCMCIA 6-pin Firewire Port with TI chips - WILL THIS POWER THE DEVICE ??

  2. USB2 Audio interface like teh MOTU 828mkii - WILL THIS BE TOTALLY MOBILE OR WHAT??

  3. RME Cardbus + RME Multiface or similar - CRAZY EXPENSIVE AND STILL REQUIRES AN EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY

Yeah, I wonder if there’s a good path for me or what?? Is USB2 really unable to keep up with firewire inerfaces?

I play bulk guitar, sing/rap, synth/ electronics, mics etc.

Thanks heaps for any help ey, man im lovin 1.8.0b3 i love trackers!! love 'em.
ok Cheers .

FReeLY

Cheers thanks… yer I read something similar on the MOTU site.
Farout, so basikly its either USB2 or a different laptop WTF?!

cheers Bantai

Or an external battery powered PSU

ooooo ! niiice.
i’ll look into that man, cheers!!

hmmm, I havent the cash to upgrade my audio interface at the moment anyways…
so i’ll just continue to use my ESI Juli@ PCI card on my desktop for any serious sampling.

My new query is this:

Anyone have any experience with the Samson Resolv 40a Studio Monitors?

What are they like ??

cheers
